buy books? library?

I am curious..what does every1 do? Do you buy ur books from a bookstore/amazon or ebay? or do you go to the library to borrow them. There are a few books that are newer such as the Emily Griffin novels I keep hearing raves about that none of the libraries have and when I asked if they could be put on hold, i was told they r on the list of new books that cant be saved... so how do u get ur books?

Re: buy books? library?

I ALWYAS buy. I haven't used the library since I was a kid. Since I'm such a bibliophile (and I never remember to return things) I even bought most of the books I used for papers in college. I have a membership at Barnes and Noble, but I buy from Amazon when it's cheaper. I also like to go into the stores. Every time I set foot in Barnes and Noble I drop at least $50-100.

i LOVE books. Chat Icon

ETA: I'm so excited they're opening a Borders at the Atlas Center. A bookstore! Less than 10 minutes from my house! HEAVEN! Chat Icon

Re: buy books? library?

Well, since I work in a library, it's where I get all my reading material.

And Michelle, you're right about the no-reserve policy for high-demand items. Wait a while, and the titles will come off the list. then you'll be able to reserve them.

I love bookstores, but I make a list of things I want to read and get them from the library.

You can reserve books online from the nassau library website. www.alisweb.org You just need your card number and establish a PIN, and you're all set. you can even choose the pickup location. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: buy books? library?

I do both, but I realize now that I have a problem. I was cleaning this weekend and at one point just said, "Not ONE MORE book can enter this house until I have read some of the ones I already own...."

Re: buy books? library?

I used to buy books all the time, but it got completely out of hand...I had no where to put them...now I usually try the library first and only if its something I'm dying to read I'll buy it.

I try not to buy. But the library never seems to have what i am looking for. And the last time i got a book from the library it smelt soooo bad. I had to bring it right back - could not even read it!

I go back and forth. I get in a mood where I will take a bunch out of the library and then I get in buying moods.

I use the library 99% of the time unless there is a new book that comes out that I am absolutely dying to read.

Re: buy books? library?

I buy at BJ's or Costco - I'm a Nicholas Sparks fan, so whenever he has a new book out that's where I go since it's hardcover. It's sooo much cheaper then Borders or B&N that way. They also have some paperback books as well.
