Buying a Christmas present for a poor child?
I remember 2 years ago, I got a letter from somewhere (I forget where), where you get a letter from a child, who sent it to Santa, with toys they want for Christmas, and you buy it for them & send it. Does anyone know where I can do this?
Thank you.

Yes i did it last year. tHey had a booth up outside Macys at the Roosevelt Field Mall. Im def doing it this year too. Ill ask the info desk at the mall when i go this weekend when they'll be there again.
They had all the kids letters on a tree. You chose whichever one you wantd, went around the mall to look and buy the gift, then went back to the booth with the gift. They wrapped it.
I believe it was the Salvation army

Never heard of this...but last year my motorcycle club adopted a family through a school.
Maybe try going through a shelter or something of the sort. Bravo to you for wanting to give to those in need!

Churches do it and some fire houses do Toys for Tots. I usually adopt a child through a charity we support in work too, but that's organized by my company.
I also used to send gifts out to The Little Flower orphanage in Wading River, so maybe you could do that?

You may also want to try the main post office in the city...33rd street and 8th Avenue. There are thousands and thousands of letters from children throughout the city to Santa.

Yes, DH's aunt does this. The only thing is that the families are not necessarily needy. It's more of a smorgasbord of kids and their wants and wishes to Santa. Brat dolls included.

I also participate. But, I do not buy for kids who request Playstation Games. Umm, sorry, if you are poor, why do you have playstation?

So if you got a letter that requested playstation games what do you do? Send back the letter? Buy something else?

I buy something else. Why should I buy someone who is supposedly needy, a video game for a $300.00 gaming system?

Re: Buying a Christmas present for a poor child?
I do this every year through NY Cares. I always get a request from a younger kid and one from a teen.
Last year's teen requested size 0 Prada jeans and a Coach handbag. Needless to say, Santa didn't come through on that one!
I love doing it though and I know that it's appreciated.

I wasn't trying to attack you or question what you do. It was an honest question b/c I do this every year and haven't had that happen yet, but I haven't recieved my letters for this year yet and was wondering what I can do if I get a letter like that myself.
