Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
So we are in the very beginning stages of our home search.
We are just trying to figure out on average, what we would spend monthly for our house????
Gas- Average or winter and summer months??
Electric- Monthly Cost?
Water? Monthly Costs?
Home Owner Insurance?
And what size is your house? Ex. 4 bed, 2 baths, and # of people in household.
Thanks so much for sharing! I know it may be too personal too share, so thank you!!!!

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
We closed in June and believe it or not have not gotten an electric bill yet
but in our old house which was 3 bedrooms 1.5 bath we averaged this
Electric - $150 per month
Water - 40 bucks every 3 months
homeowners ins is 75 per month
we have oil and we just pay to fill our tank when we need it...
ETA: My homeowners is 865 for the year...

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
4 Br, 2bth cape with finished basement. I am a SAHM so I am home all day with 2 kids.
Electric runs me about 125 in the winter months and in the summer between $200 and $300 depending on how hot it is. I am not a big a/c person and I also hang my clothes outside during the summer to cut down on my dryer use.
Gas - we only use for cooking and hot water and it is $30/month.
Oil - I get approx 3 deliveries a year and they run approx $600 - $800 each depending on the price of oil. I never get a contract.
Water is pretty cheap my last bill was $80 bucks for the summer and we have a sprinkler system.
Homeowners is $1400 a year.

Gas- unsure , as we have oil
Electric- figure about a 100+ or so, if you have a dishwasher/dyrer/washer or electric heat anywhere in the house.
Water? Monthly Costs? usually it's every 3 months you pay. I think I usually pay 30 every 30 months or something.
Home Owner Insurance? For 1800 sq, I pay 1000. Go to Utica First. but again this depends on varying factors.
And what size is your house? Ex. 3 br, 1.5 bath, 3 people

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
Gas - $0 - we have oil
Electric - averages about $200 a month (more in the summer with the central a/c running) but we have electric dryer, oven, etc.
Oil - we just got our 4th delivery since owning the house (just about a year) and the total cost so far is about $1500
Water - every 2-3 months water bill is about $30 (more in the summer with the automatic sprinklers).
Homeowners - $1500 a month with jewelry rider.
3 bedroom, 2 bath house. Me and DH (but we work opposite schedules so one of is almost always home)

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
Gas isn't too high... about 30 during the summer per month (I don't cook too much) and 175 per month during the coldest time of year.
Electric probably average about 100 per month (we hardly ever use the AC though)
Water is about 30 per month.
My homeowners was 1150 this year (goes up every year)
It's a 3 bedroom 1.5 bathroom.

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
Gas- $0 - all electric condo
Electric- we're averaging between $250-300 .... condo is all electric... we also have an old heating unit that i think is driving up our payments
Water? Its in our maintainence so i dont remember... but its a relatively small #
Home Owner Insurance? VERY cheap... something like $250 for the yr (bc its a condo we only had to insure the inside...outside is covered by them)
And what size is your house? 1300 sq ft townhouse condo - 3 bed, 1.5 bath, no basement
ETA: Our maintainence fee SHOULD be $280, but we have a $100 assessment going on right now

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
You can call the electric & gas company and let them know you are buying this house and would like to know the averaging cost, They will tell you the highest and lowest charges they have.

yes that's what i did when we bought our house.
our house is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath ranch. 2 adults, 2 kids, one dog.
gas and electric: average about 350-400 all year (we have central ac and gas heat). in the summer, gas is less, but electric is high b/c of ac; winter gas is high but electric is low.
water: $30 every 3 mos in winter; 50-60 in the summer.
insurance: $1,200 a yr.

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
we've only been in our house a couple of months but so far it seems like our bills are a lot higher than average...
Gas was $60 this month (not sure why, all we use it for right now is to cook)
Electric- was closer to 300 last month, this month was 200
Water- i think around $140 as i recall.. we have an IGS system which we used a lot for our grass since when we bought it the grass was unwatered/dead
Insurance about $1k a year
we have a 3 bed, 2 bath split level. 2 people.

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
4bed 2.5 bath colonial 1700 sqft 2 people we work but DH only works 12 days a month so he's home most of the other days and I have a dog sitter all day in the house watching tv and using the heat when we aren't home
electric was $90-$100 winter months and $150-$350 summer months but we don't have CAC and we have a pool and hot tube. the month it was $350 we had all the window ac's running and the pool all day and night even when we weren't home then we stopped that
Gas- my entire home is gas + we have a gas fireplace we used a ton in the coler months, my bill was never over $100
water-I've only gotten 1 bill so far for 3 months it was $60
homeowners ins was $1200 for the year but they counted a pool and a 4ft deep pond as well as 2 fireplaces and a dog. Included in that price is a rider for my e-ring

Re: Buying a home, question about Gas, Electric, Water Bills?
Our first oil bill was 1200 bucks that was to fill a 550 gallon tank. that was in feb, as of now we haven't had to fill it up again.
Electric- its usually between 80-160. during the summer it was double that, we had central air running
Water? its like every 2 months and its like 38 bucks. although my last bill was 83 but we had sprinklers running everyday for like 3 hours trying to get our grass green, so i was expecting that.
homeowners insurance- was like 250 for the year.
.We have 6 room house, 1 bathroom and there are two people living as well as a dog
