buying a house?
Yes I would. First rule of real estate is location location location. So as long as the house has potential and no major issues (i.e. foundation, etc) I would go for it. IMO you would get to do the house to your own taste plus you would KNOW the renovations that are actually done. I don't trust house flippers or people who put lipstick on a pig so to speak. This way you know what is being done and you can do it to your liking.

Yes and we are actually looking off something like this. For us it's a bit different though because my brother is a GC so we will have free labor. You can't change location but you can change the cosmetic. Just make sure it doesn't have structural damage !

Not trying to start drama, but I'd be really careful with assuming your brother is going to do all the work.
A lot of people have gotten like this with DH.
He's not free labor (he works a lot and often doesn't have time for his own home as a result), and honestly, even if they've offered to pay him, a lot of it he doesn't have the time or even the expertise/tools to get involved.

I have to agree with above poster. Be careful with family members and assuming that what they say they will do will actually get done. I guess what I'm trying to say is be careful purchasing a property solely on the assumption that the family member/friend will step up to the plate. I've heard countless stories where a brother/husband/cousin/friend/nephew/etc. was a contractor/carpenter/etc. and was going to do all necessary work and it never happened because of their schedules. My neighbor is a contractor and has a list a mile long of things to do is his own house that he just doesn't have time for....

Absolutely would, even though I know it would be the most stressful thing ever.

I think you bring up a great point. Very very true. My dad is like this…always does things but he takes forever, and forget his own house. My poor mom is the last on the list.

Re: buying a house?
Yes. I bought the crappiest house I had ever seen. But now it's beautiful and it's all our taste. I actually prefer the idea of buying a house that needs a total redo to living with someone else's choices.

Re: buying a house?
No, because I get overwhelmed very easily. I also have zero imagination. DH can see past cosmetic things, I can not. I could never live through renovations, the house would need to be 100% sone before moving in
