buying a new car ... when is the best time?
i have been putting off buying a car for a while now and I finally need to do it because we need another car!!
when is the best time. Will they have good sales this weekend. Should i make my suffering last longer and wait for better deals?
Im 90% sure we are buying not leasing (i just cant get sold on the idea of leasing)
also has anyone used brokers. are they better to use?
ETA: im on the fence if Im going to get a brand new car or "new" used car meaning maybe a year -2 years old car

We bought a Honda Accord last October.
Do you know what you want? If so, start calling every dealership within a 90+ minute radius and get quotes. I called probably 15+ dealerships to get quotes. I would then use those quotes to get better deals at other dealerships. Some dealerships are even willing to bring the car to you!
In the end, I got the best deal from the dealership located closest to me. It took a lot of phone calls/phone tag over the course of a week, but I was able to get them down several thousand dollars from their original quote.

best time is late november or early december IMO- they are trying to get rid of all of the prior year's models to make room for the next year's... we did well on both of our cars by holding out until then

Your best bet is to go the last few days of the month. They are more likely to work out a deal to make the monthly sales quotas. If you can wait till later in the year even better because they want to to clear out as much as possible before the new year

The end of the month is always better, as well as towards the end of the year. But for many models, the 2020's are already available, so you might do well now, since the dealerships will want to get rid of the 2019's

Re: buying a new car ... when is the best time?
End of month
When it is bad weather
September or February because new cars come in September and February is the shortest month of the year and new cars are six months old
Go on kbb.com and edmunds,com
Price out the kinds of cars you are interested in. Know the cost of every add on feature.
Using the internet option on those websites have them contact you.
Go to your bank and a credit union to see what kind of loan you qualify for.
Negotiate for total price, not payment price.
Negotiate for free oil change, free car wash, free wiper blades
None of the scotch guard or undercoating is necessary as dealer options.
Make sure to add in the rubber car mats.

I agree, even early in the new year, they might have left over from the prior year but might be limited

Re: buying a new car ... when is the best time?
https://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/when-to-buy-your-next-car.html
People are always looking for a way to game the system and save money on major purchases. Much of this thinking revolves around zeroing in on the best time to purchase a particular item. Need a new TV? Shop on Black Friday or around the Super Bowl. Flying somewhere? Buy your plane ticket on a Tuesday and fly out on a Wednesday.
It's no different for cars. Ask anyone, "When is the best time to buy a car?" and you'll get answers ranging from the end of the month to "wait until the new models come out." There are as many theories on this topic as there are days in the year. And, oddly enough, there is a grain of truth in many of them.
When Is the Best Time to Buy a Car End of the model year End of the calendar year End of month End of the car's design cycle End of the car's life cycle Memorial Day Fourth of July Labor Day Black Friday Presidents Day November December October Monday Early in the week ...

I'm a big fan of 1-2 year old cars. Depending on the car, you can get an "almost new" car for 1/3 off the price of a brand-new car.
I really like https://www.enterprisecarsales.com/ I bought my current RAM 1500 from them, and I'll buy DW's next vehicle from them as well. No haggling, comes with a warranty, and they have a huge rotating inventory.

From someone who does contracts, dmv, and inventory management at a delaer- time of year doesnt matter. Each manufacturer releases each model at different times. For us 3 of our 4 models are producing 20s while the 4th is still producing 19s. The end of month thing is true.
Some of GoldenRod's HuffPost points are true. Month doest matter- programs and rebates change monthly and dealers dont know what they will be until they come out. Depending on the manufacturer- holidays can be good. But be wary of those super low payment TV commercials. They usually require a significant amount of money out of pocket and theyre always leases.
PM me if you have any specific questions.

I agree, I always bought new until 3 yrs ago. The value drops once you drive off the lot with a new car

Re: buying a new car ... when is the best time?
End of month is always better b/c the sales guys need to fill their quotas. End of model years is also better but you will have to take what they have (or what they can get) and you may not be able to choose the color or features you want. (Also, November/December is not necessarily end of model year, many are July because factories start producing the new cars then.)
But, being that car prices are so publicly available now, you can usually get a good deal almost any time because you can shop around for the best price before you even walk in the door.
