Re: c-section mama's?
Posted by SuzyQ
Mine wasn't too bad. I had heard from friends that I would just feel pressure, but it felt worse than that to me. Maybe that was because they still were having a hard time getting DD out. They ended up using a vacuum. Then they could not get my bleeding to stop. My uterus would not contract. I was told it was because I had a long labor and it was too tired. So I ended up losing a lot of blood, but surprisingly, my recovery was very easy. I was up walking around the next day and needed very little pain medicine.
I lost a lot of blood also. I got really anemic because of it. They had to give me iron pills in the hospital and i continued to take them when i got home.

Re: c-section mama's?
I have to say my c-section to me was a breeze too. I use that word a lot when i describe it...however mine was a scheduled c-section so that might of made the recovery better.
I never felt a thing during the whole procedure, not a tug or pinch or anthing, actually the only thing i felt was the babies coming out of me.
REcovery for me was easy too. I was up the next day and in my pajamas walking in the ward with no assistance. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days, however i will say TAKE THE PERCOSET. I was feeling so good i stopped it the 2nd day and the pain got pretty bad at one time. However, i never took any pain medicine after i left the hospital.
I was driving and in BRU the second day home and out walking by the 4th day.
I actually thought getting the IV needle was worse then my spinal and the breast engorgement was 10x more painful for me then my c-section.
However, just my eperience. I saw people on the maternity ward that were having really difficult recoveries from c-sections. I think everyones response is different.
ETA - I was taking care of two babies when i got home too with some family help and never was it an issue except i had to be careful getting in and out of bed because it would tug in that area.

Re: c-section mama's?
I much rather prefer vaginal. With my first son, I was back to normal within a week or 2. With this section (14 weeks ago) I still don't feel right. Actually today my incision is hurting for some reason.

Re: c-section mama's?
I had a c-section as a result of being 9 days overdue and my son being estimated to be over 10 lbs! I never went into labor and that was no longer an option.
I'm a complete baby when it comes to needles so I got myself more worked up over having the IV put in and getting the spinal than the c-section itself. My worst fear was not being numb enough and feeling the incision. Quite honestly, getting the IV was worse than getting the spinal! Once I got the spinal, my legs were numb before I could lay back down. From the time the incision was made, my son was born 6 minutes later. I think I was in the OR for a total of 30 minutes. Then in recovery for an hour or so. The ultimate WORST thing for me with the section was the gas pain....OMG I thought I was in labor!! I was not prepared for that in the least!!
I was able to walk assisted the next day but I'm not going to lie I was in alot of pain, I couldn't even lean over the sink to wash my face and bruch my teeth. I couldn't move around holding my son or tansfer from sitting to standing or vice versa while holding him for a week. I couldn't carry him in his carrier for 3 weeks. At about 5 weeks I started feeling good but the incision was still tender at 9 weeks when I went back to work.

Re: c-section mama's?
I had a c-section and it was not planned. The recovery was tough, but I think it was because I pushed for 11 hours first. My body would have been better off if the section was planned.

Re: c-section mama's?
It was "ok." I would have preferred the vaginal birth, but he was 9 lbs 7 oz, sunnyside up and I just was not progressing past 8 cm, so we had the c-section. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days, and found that the hospital bed helped alot. Once I got home and had to use my stomach muscles to get out of a regular bed, ouch!! Coughing and laughing hurt, too. But, it was only a few days of true discomfort. Of course, it was worth it in the end. I don't know though, I still kind of wish I could have had the vaginal birth, and think about a VBAC if that's possibe when the next time comes!

Re: c-section mama's?
my gf just had a baby and had a c section, the c section itself she said was nothing but she puked right after BUT the recovery she said is a b!tch. Her DH took off 3 weeks of work she was in so much pain she could not take care of the baby or herself. Just make sure Bobby is taking off 2 weeks and you have plenty of hands!!!!

Re: c-section mama's?
I had a c-section after 17.5 long hours of labor with little progression. To be honest, I had a great experience. The pain was tolerable with motrin and tylenol.
The girl in the bed next to me had a terrible time after her natural childbirth, that I had to help her get around. She had stitches in her whoo-haa and hemmorioids and she was in a lot of pain.
The only thing that bothered me when I came home was going up the stairs. And I had a numb feeling near my incision for about 6 months. BTW my incision is completley invisiable

I had a c-section with DS and had to make the decision as well to have it. I am so glad that I did. I had a great experience with it. I did not have to go through ANY labor what so ever. The recovery is tough, it is a major surgery. Just remember that while you are in the hospital for the 4 days take full advantage of the nurses to help you and your DH. As long as you take your pain meds and take it slow, you will be fine.
Also, don't let anyone make you feel like you are not making the right decision. There are alot of people who will have something to say I'm sure.
Good luck to you!!!
I couldn't have said it better!!!!!!

Re: c-section mama's?
it was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok, not a walk in the park exactly, but i would prefer one to a vaginal birth any day (never had a v-birth though).
once the pain medicine wears off, you'll be in pain. no doubt about it.
and for a few days, and even a few weeks, it hurts to move around. you can't pick up the baby easily. BF is harder. after 6 weeks, i was totally ok.
but..... personally, i'd prefer that to labor pains, the ordeal of pushing, and the lingering female issues often involved.
i had to have a c-section because DD was breach & the external version failed. i did everything in my power to avoid the c, but now i'm glad i had to go that route.
good luck!
ETA: i have major anxiety issues regarding shots, surgery, giving blood, that kind of stuff... and i was fine for the IV & spinal. the adrenaline starts pumping & you can get through anything!

Re: c-section mama's?
I had a c-section at the last minute we learned DH couldnt come in the room and that I wouldn't be awake. I had 5 minutes to accept and adjust to this. To be honest with you, the first day you are sooo drugged up its aok! The second day I had drugs in the AM and then nothing. This is the afternoon that they made me get out of bed and walk to the bathroom. YOUCH! OUCH! MF'er are just a few things I yelled. The next day I was walking around like normal. In all honesty, I thought it was pretty easy and would do it again in a heartbeat. I hope it goes fairly painless for you

Re: c-section mama's?
I had a c section after being in labor for 27 hours. I pushed for about 3 hours and wasnt progressing at all.
The spinal believe it or not was FINE and I am deathly afraid of needles. While they were doing the section, I felt ALOT of pressure but no pain. I did throw up when they were stitching me up. That first night, I was absolutely fine from the epi and the pain meds. The next morning a nurse came in to clean me up and get me out of bed. I am not going to lie..it was AWFUL! But then again, I am not too great with pain. They made me walk that day and it wasnt easy. I had incentive to go to the nicu to see my baby girl so that made things a bit easier.
Getting out of bed I think was the HARDEST thing for me overall. Even with the hospital bed, it was very painful. I was given tylenol with codeine and motrin. The gas pains are HORRENDOUS. When I came home, I was in a alot of pain for about a week but you force yourself to get better because all you want to do is be with that baby.
Overall, the iv was probably THE WORST PART! Going in hurt, coming out hurt, they had to flush it a couple of times and that made me sick! I was one of those people who thought they would never survive a c section...I was so scared but I did it...it helps when you know your baby is waiting for you to get better to depend on their mommy!
