Re: C-Section mommies
I had to see my dr. earlier than 6 weeks (I think it was 2 weeks PP) to check my blood levels because I had lost alot of blood during the c-section and he gave me permission to drive only short distances then. I hardly went out anyway, but it was so nice to drive to Walgreen's for a quick errand.

Re: C-Section mommies
I had my daughter on a Friday. The following Thursday I went to my Dr to have my staples taken out. He told me at that appointment I could start driving again but to take it easy. I was driving that weekend.
It seems every doctor is different. I would go with what your body tells you. If you feel great then try a short drive. if you feel good then increase it then next time.
Congrats!

Re: C-Section mommies
I drove about 2 weeks after, but I took it easy. You just have to be careful becuase if you have to stop suddenly you may pull stomach muscles and that would not be good.

Re: C-Section mommies
I was going to post this exact thread! I thought I was going to have to run out to the store, but, my mom saved me. I went to the dr. earlier last week and totally forgot to ask if I could drive yet or when I could. I was going to call them and see. I will have to call soon because DS has an appt. next week. I hope I can drive him to it. DS is going to be 4 weeks on monday. I hope I don't have to wait 2 more weeks to drive.

Re: C-Section mommies
I didn't know I wasn't supposed to drive either. I was driving the night I came home from the hospital and I drove myself to all my checkup appointments.
It wasn't until I happen to read the discharge instructions that I noticed I wasn't supposed to be driving for 2 weeks.
As a result my scar is FUBAR'ed up and will need to be fixed if I have another c-section or by a plastic surgeon.

Re: C-Section mommies
I think the first time I drove was when I went to get the staples out. No one ever told me I wasn't supposed to drive Then after my 6 week check up they told me I could drive and I said "oh I didn't know I wasn't supposed to"

Re: C-Section mommies
My doctor told me that any quick movement and I could rip open my incision - I was not going to take the chance. Plus, I had sooo many relatives around - they drove me everywhere.

Re: C-Section mommies
I asked at my one-week appt. and was told that since I was healing well and wasn't taking any pain medication that I could start driving. I actually drove for the first time today!!

You know I was just thinking - I didn't have staples - so that might have been why I was told not to drive - because it was different

Re: C-Section mommies
I was never told a timeframe, and I drove myself to a dr appoitment about 1 week later. The thing is, if you were to be in an accident would it really matter if you were a passenger or a driver?
Aside from dr appointments and a few errands I was mostly homebound for 4-6 weeks anyway

Re: C-Section mommies
My doc told me I could drive as soon as I was off the pain meds. I stopped taking them like the day after my C-section while I was still in the hospital, but did not drive for about another week or so.

Re: C-Section mommies
2 wks - and I think that was because of the painkillers. I was pretty drugged I remember so I didn't want to drive.
