Re: C Section mommies

are you asking about the swelling or the pouch? For me, they are two different thingsChat Icon

Only now, at a year, is that pouch going away. After loosing tons of weight and LOADS of sit ups.

the swelling went down totally after about 3 months.

I don't have swelling in that area I don't think, just a ton of blubber Chat Icon. I do have a hardening, if that's what you have, that I was told by my OB would take months to go away.

Re: C Section mommies

The swelling where the incision is took about 2-3mos to fully go away as for the pouch I'm still working on it 8mos later.

There was a pouch (uterus) and also a bump above the incision. The pouch went down fully by about 2 or so months and I still have the slightest bump above the incision (it kind of goes in and then out if that makes any sense at all).

Re: C Section mommies

i was wondering the same thing. i thought that your uterus was supposed to be back to its normal size at 6 wks. i still have a tummy so i thought it was just a matter of losing weight. i hope i'm wrong and its just swelling. i think mine might be more than that because it seems bigger today than it has been. i've been eating a lot more! why does it take a few months for the swelling be gone for good? i thought bfing was supposed to help with the whole shrinking thing, not just weight loss?Chat Icon

Re: C Section mommies

Aside from the flabby pouch of skin - the incision area took about just over 3 months to come down completely (I also had a bad rash on my incision area).

The OB said at 7 weeks that my uterus is back to it's size, the rest is just tissue swelling (but I had problems after surgery) and the hard spot is what will take a few months. As for the weight loss and breast feeding-she said she thinks it's harder for BFing Mom's to lose the weight because they are sleep deprived and eating to satisfy the hunger that arises from all the feedings. So basically, I will be "swollen" forever. Chat Icon

Re: C Section mommies

My actual swelling went away in a few weeks maybe 6-8 but the pouch is another story we are at 17 months and I still have a little but it really started to suck back in at about a year after losing a really good amount of weight and going to the gym though-the pouch just needs a little work you will do it though just relax now, get well, enjoy the baby and work on it when you feel ready and don't feel bad that you won't have good strength for awhile it is normal. To be honest until about 12 months I did not have all of my strength back-C-section is a no joke surgery it is more major than people make it out to be. Give yourself time!
Congrats though!!!!Chat Icon

OMG - thank you for your honest replies... I did not exepct it to take that long...Chat Icon Chat Icon there are two areas of poofiness - the swelling above the incision and the bulging uterus. I've lost 14 lbs. so far, but my belly is still bulging. i'm more concerned than i thought i would be b/c i live in FL so summer isn't as far away as it would be if I was in NY. Usually, by March, I'm at the beach...Chat Icon Chat Icon hopefully the swelling will go down by then

not to say, it wasn't worth it - i love my son...but this birth thing is no joke!

Re: C Section mommies

I never had that pouch people are talking about - I would say though that it took about 6 mts for the scar to really feel healed....

I am below my pre-pregnancy weight at almost 5 months post-partum. I still have the bulge and I have been working out like crazy. I am used to being thin so it's tough for me to have the bulge...I just bought a pair of Spanx yesterday b/c it doesn't look like the fat is going to go away anytime soon Chat Icon
