Re: C-Section moms I need your advice
I had a c-section but I did go into labor and push for an hour and I must say that for me the c-section was a million times less painful. I had such great recovery. My c-section was at 10pm and I was up and walking the next day and I was not hunched over or anything. I think everyone's experiences - like with labor- are going to be different.

You should FM Trish (chmlengr) she had a both. She had a c-section first and then VBAC. She could probably give you the best prospective.

If you don't handle pain very well why would you think a c-section would be a way to avoid pain Do you not understand that it is major abdominal surgery?
I do understand, and it is a choice that they are giving me. That is why I am asking for advice. I don't handle LABOR pain well - and I've had both natural with no drugs, and induced with an epidural. I"m sure there will be pain after, but I don't think it's anything compared to what I went through giving birth vaginally.
Its 16 hours (MAYBE) of pain that can be handled with an epidural, compared to weeks of pain and recovery. IMO a labor is a breeze compared to recovery from major abdominal surgery.

Re: C-Section moms I need your advice
I had 2 sections in one year. I would not say that either of them were easy. My first one was better than the second, but still it was definitely painful afterwards. I was not up and walking around the same day for either of my c-sections. It is major surgery and it is painful. I could not stand being in recovery and having to deal with my legs being completely numb. It totally freaked me out. Then there is the pain you feel in your abdomen by the incision. There is also the gas pains you experience.
Now really be careful when you opt for surgery. My recovery after my 2nd c-section seemed like it was going fine until I started oozing from my incision. The end result was my OBGYN having to rip all my stitches out and me having nurse come to my house for almost a month. The nurse had to pack my wound with saline filled gauze becasue it had to heal by itself. It was very painful. I was also unable to lift my one year old son for a month.
I personally wish that I was able to have vaginal births. Now my 2nd c-section experience was not the norm, but there is always a risk with surgery. I would not do the c-section if I was you.

Re: C-Section moms I need your advice
I was induced and my labor never progressed at all, so I had a c-section. Recovery was uncomfortable, but not painful for me...its different for everyone. I was more comfortable when they took the staples out. You will be able to get out of bed and walk around the next day, and the sooner you do that the faster you will recover...but do take it easy, things will be very tender

Re: C-Section moms I need your advice
I got my epidural when I was 2cm. When I reached 10, I pushed for a couple of hours and DD never came down, so I had a c-section. I assume I got a spinal right before surgery.
My c-section was at 6pm on a Friday night. I think I got up walking sometime on Saturday. Once the drugs wore off, I as uncomfortable, but I only took Motrin. I spent 4 nights in the hospital and I couldn't wait to get home. Once home, the first few days were rough, but I remember feeling better each and every day. After about 2 weeks I felt pretty good.

Re: C-Section moms I need your advice
My recovery was very painful, making it very difficult to get around and do usual things, especially care for the baby. But it was certainly bearable with pain medication. But I really couldn't do much.
I left the hospital after 5 days and was still in A LOT of pain when I walked around. You have to walk to speed up the recovery, but man it hurt.
I would advise against the c-section and schedule the operation, which can't possibly be as bad as a c-section (I imagine) for later.

Re: C-Section moms I need your advice
I've had a vbirth and 2 c/s and I definitely prefer the vbirth. However, I had a very good vbirth. Sometimes the insurance will cover a tubal during a c/s but not on it's own - do you know if this is a factor with your insurance? Some doctors will even let you know this and that if you are considering one, the time to do it is during a c/s.
I was up walking around after both my c/s. I had both around 3am and was walking that night. I had gas pain build up with both which was awful. Actually quite excruciating but once that passed, recovery was fine.
