C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
I just wanted to give you an update on me, since you guys were so kind to help me concerning the my coming birth and those dang fissures.
My Doc ok'd the c section, he'll do anything/support my decision either way because of my fissures and pushing issue.
I will prob have a date within a month for 7-10 days before my due date.
How do I prepare myself for this? What should I expect?
Are there different things I need to bring to the hospital for a c than a v delivery?
Anyone have their DH and mom in the delivery room?
TIA

I was only allowed to have my dh with both my c/s. The only piece of advice I can give you is to get up and walk as SOON as they let you. It may hurt like h e l l but the sooner you get up, the faster your recovery will be.

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
I didn’t have much time to prepare for my c/s, I went to the Dr. on tues and they scheduled me for Wed (I was thrilled because I was so scared of a VB). My bp was elevated, the baby was measuring over 9lbs (ended up being 9lb10oz) and I was making NO progress. So there really was no difference in the prep work for me since it wasnt "scheduled"….
I was only allowed my DH in the room… I asked for my mom to be there and they said no… I was heartbroken but understood.
I agree with Michelle… walk as soon as they let you. I was up the next day walking around the hospital… I was sore but it wasn’t that bad. I also made sure to take the pain meds that they offered me every few hours. You can stay 4 days but I went home after 3, I couldn’t wait to just get home and settled.
I have said it before on here, I had an absolutely amazing c/s experience. Good luck!

I was only allowed to have DH in delivery room, they let him come in after I had the spinal shots.
I dont think there is really anything you can do to prepare yourself. I agree with the other posters...walk as soon as they will let you, my feet got so swollen because I was pumped up with so many liquids from the IV. And yes, take the pain meds, they helped alot.

move, move , move, i was sitting in a chair after just 3 hours in my room and was walking later in the day. I really healed very quicly and felt great...i didnt take pain pills only motrin....and it was wonderful! Oh and ask for an extra pillow to hold over your stomach to help you move, cough, laugh, etc. Good Luck!

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
I had a planned c-section as well. Honestly the fear of it was 10x worse then the actual experience. I had an amazing recovery. I was walking within 24 hours and had a perfect recouperation.
The spinal is nothing really. I thought the IV needle hurt the worst.
My DH was the only one allowed in the room with me.
Although you are numb from the waist down I could still feel my feet a little so you don't feel like you are "paralyzed" like i thought.
A lot of people said they feel tugging and pressure. I didn't feel much except the baby coming out of my tummy.
I would bring big cotton briefs with you to the hospital. YOu will need to wear loose fitting closing over your c-section line. The underware (not that attractive) goes well over it and you can throw away afterwards. Also bring baggy pajama pants that will go over you incisiion.
I started feeling my legs almost immediately after leaving the OR. Within 30 mintues i had total feeling back.
Be prepared for your arms to be strapped down. Mine were but i could still itch my nose during the procedure.
Finally, the worse part for me was more me panicing that i could not feel my chest and breathing. I just totally focused on breathing in and out and it made it go fast. It really does not feel that way, but sometimes you panic. I think that is what happened to me.
If i have a c-section next time i will be much calmer. Like i said the worst part for me was thinking about it.
Good luck!

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
I agree about moving as soon as possible. Some women will get a build up of gas which is common with abdominal surgery. I unfortunately was one of them who had really bad pain from that in the days following the birth, it's really painful. If your OB puts you on a liquids only diet at first, it might help too. But walk as much as you can. You can always tell the c/s moms on the maternity floor - they're the ones doing laps around the nurses station pushing their babies in their bassinets. I survived fine on 600mg of Motrin after the gas pain subsided. Have a pillow handy at all times so you can hold it if you have to cough or for holding the baby. (Boppy works too)
Good luck to you.

Yes - ITA - as soon as they took out the catheter, they told me to not lie down - I walked around, and sat at a chair instead of the bed when I ate, and healed very well from the cs...
Make sure you bring nice big granny undies that will go over the incision - you dont want undies where the band is anywhere near it... also nice big comfy stretchy pants...
I wasnt planning on having a cs, but wound up needing one, but I made sure to pack my hospital bag with lots of loose fitting pants just in case... I'm glad I did!
ETA: I had moms who delivered vaginally who told me they couldnt believe how much I was moving around - they still were in too much pain!

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
Personally i think my c-section was the worst thing i ever experienced. The procedure itself was quick and painless, but the recovery was awful. I woke up in a cold sweat the first 2 nights in the hospital, and i kept shaking uncontrolably( spell check). It was painful getting in and out of bed, and it hurt to even laugh. I think everyone handle pain in their own way, but i was not prepared for that. Hopefully it will be better for you. In the end its all worth it. Its been 10 weeks and i feel great Good luck

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
I had a somewhat emergency c-section...My BP was elevated for 1 week and they sent me to the hospital at my last appt that week... DH was the only in the DR with me....
I have to say my c-section experience was really good... Like the other posters said get out of the bed as soon as you can... Walk around go to the bathroom...do whatever you can.....
I didn't know when I packed my bag I was having a c-sec so I packed regular underwear.....I made DH bring me ALL of my maternity underwear....
My Dr had me on an all liquid diet for the first 2 1/2 days I was there... What hospital are you going to ?

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
Ditto what everyone else said. I had less than 24 hours notice about my C-section so I didn't get too much prep and advice, but I wish someone would have told me how horrendous the gas pain could be! I don't want to scare you but just be prepared for this possibility. I thought this was worse than the incision!! I also was vomiting for hours after the procedure and was nauseaus until the next morning from the medication so my IV stayed in another 24 hours to continue to give me anti-nauseau meds and IV fluids. I wished I had brought my bobby with me because it was very painful for me to hold my son unsupported.
Good Luck!!

I agree! I was up walking around the hospital the next day, I had pain but it really wasn't to bad. Bring a boppy pillow with you for feedings, make it more comfortable on your scar when you hold the baby.

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
For some reason, I seriously had a painfree c-section.
It was scheduled. I was completely calm and excited.
I did not feel my legs at all. complete numbness.
I did not have my arms strapped down, instead DH held one hand and the nurse held the other while anesthesiologist rubbed my temples.
I did feel a little tugging, but honestly, I thought they were scrubbing and prepping me, then were really taking baby out.
I had no feeling in my legs for hours. cathadar was in till the next morning. Then I got out of bed and walked with DH down to cafeteria. I took IBprofren twice, only because I thought pain was going to come, but it never did.
The only thing I wish I had was a hand held showerhead...that would have made cleaning the incision easier.
only DH was allowed in room. no cameras were allowed. Baby was latched onto me within the hour.

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
most know my feelings about my c/s
you just do not know how your body will handle the surgery. it is major surgery. I had to have a second surgery a year later to deal with scar tissue problems.
Anna is the only person I ever knew who had 2 people with her (DH and her twin sister) Most likely your mom will not be allowed in with you. You might want to get clearance ahead of time.

I can't help with advice but I'm glad you got the support from your doctor your were looking for. I know it wasn't the easist choice to make but I know the pain your are in and honestly don't know how you have held up this long, I really, really, don't. I think I would have held my **** in every day. I hope they can give your relief ASAP after your little one is born. Lots of hugs to you!

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
With my son, 3 yrs ago, I had a difficult recovery and I was up and moving as soon as they allowed. The first 24 hrs were fine ( I guess pain meds had not completely left my body.) After that it got more difficult, but I took no meds cause I was allergic to motrin and I was breastfeeding ... I'm a little paranoid.
It took a while to heal but I survived and its all worth it. Planning another one this time around so it couldn't have been that bad.

Re: C section ok'd by my doc for medical reasons..Lots of questions!!!
mine wasnt sheduled and I went absoutely loopy on the dr when they told me my mom couldnt stay with dh. It took about 30 min of arguing before he gave in so I would say you probably cant have your mom in. Like i said, mine wasnt scheduled so I wouldnt know what to tell yo to prepare for it. My water broke and I was in the hospital with the stuff I packed a week before. I didnt really need anything more.
