C-section question.... and IVF/FET question!

What do you think is the soonest (physically) you could do another FET for #2? Would you have to stop BFing?

Also, if you had a c-section - did your ob/gyn tell you that you needed to wait a certain amount of time before getting pregnant again?

ETA: Please don't move to IF! The c-section question is definitely parenting... and the FET question is for those who already have a baby and I don't want to post it on IF for sensitivity reasons!

I can't answer the IVF part - but only the C-section part.

My doctors said to wait 18 months before getting pregnant again. I started trying when Jack was 12 months, and got pregnant when he was 18 months.

I will wait another 18 months this time also.

I do know some doctors say after a year. Some haven't given a timeframe. I think it's all a matter of what you are comfortable with, and how well you recovered from your c-section!

The soonest my ob said I could safefy get pregant after having a c section is 1 year. That way my body had time to completely heal. My RE said I had to stop BFing if I wanted to have another cycle done.

Can't answer IVF question, but my OB/GYN told me to wait at least 6 months, ideally 1 year before getting pregnant.

She told me you usually don't have to stop BF, but I think it depends on if you are a high risk pregnancy or not. Also I've heard that the taste of the milk changes over the course of the pregnancy as your milk changes to colostrum and a lot of babies self wean.

I can't help with IVF, but as far as c-sections...my doctor didn't advise me of any waiting period between pregnancies. I got pregnant 11 mos. later and my girls are 20 mos. apart. Even though it didn't end up that way, I was even OK to try for a VBAC.

After my first c-section, i told my doctor that I wanted to wait 6 months before trying again. He was fine with it. I got pregnant immediately and my twins were born via c-section 7.5 months later. During my second c-section, while on the table, my Dr told me that my uterus was all abnormally stretched out (beyond what it should be) and advised against getting pregnant again. I was fine with that since we were done after 3.

as for your IVF question, I am sorry I do not have any experience there...

Okay you know a lot of this but

My old OB had no problem with be getting pregnant when DS was 9 months old because their office does not do VBACs. They saw no medical reason for me to wait.

Every OB I have spoken to since then has agreed AND I'm going to do a VBAC - DS and DD will be 18 months apart

Since I know you won't be having a VBAC, I would discuss it with your OB and then your RE, but I honestly think that you should wait at least 9 months. That's just personal preference though, not based on anything medical.

I also can't answer the IVF part but my doctor is most comfortable doing repeat c/s's when the surgeries are 18 months+ apart, so she said I could start trying again when DS was 9 months.

My second c/s will be when DS is about 18.5 months.

I've always heard recommendations between 12-18 months. As far as BFing, you probably wouldn't have to stop, but keep in mind many women will have their supply seriously dip during pregnancy so you may be forced to wean earlier than planned.

We did IVF with DS born 10/13/09. OB said to wait 6 months before trying again. I am calling RE next week to make an appt so we try and start IVF in April. I am not BFing but I would assume you'd have to stop with IVF due to all the meds.
