C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
So my c-section will be done at 39w5d.
I can't even explain my feelings to say why I'm so sad.
I don't regret that we're doing a c-after seeing my doctor yesterday. I think I now just regret not going forward with having it tomorrow instead of Wednesday.
The doctor went down the list of potential problems that could arise from delivering a baby this big. He can pretty much guarantee that it will be over 9 pounds. I know people said how off those measurements can be - and I asked him about it - but he insists this is a big baby from the measurements and from looking at my belly. I know people have done it vaginally, but he said it's pretty much a 50/50 chance of having complications if I choose to deliver that way - even mortality or morbidity. He spelled out some of those complications (including CP if the baby goes without oxygen for awhile after getting stuck on the way out) and I haven't been able to shake his words or images of such complications since he said them. So, now I'm no longer questioning IF I should have a c-section, but if I should have just done it tomorrow like he originally wanted, but it's too late now. He wasn't being a jerk at all - and I appreciate his honesty in telling me the risks. I'd rather that than something, God forbid, happen. I'm just now scared on so many levels. In fact, now, I'm actually scared that I'll go into labor before Wednesday and things will progress so quickly that we wont' have time for a c-section and have to go vaginally. I just want to do a c-section asap now and am mad I didn't go ahead with tomorrow's. DH is doing his best to stop me from crying, but I can't.
(TMI): It doesn't help that everytime I wipe, I see brown or red, but that could just be from the internal exam yesterday. I don't want labor to start now - which is a 180 from where I was earlier in the week. I had this vision and originally did want that experience of waking DH up in the middle of the night and saying "it's time" and going to the hospital, but now I hope that doesn't happen!
And I'm trying to play off to my family that I'm totally okay with this, so now I'm hiding how depressed I'm feeling.
Just had to get that out... thanks for listening.

Aww just think that in a couple of days you will meet your baby boy. Remember if you were to go into labor now- more then likely they would do an emergency c-section so no need for you to stress about it. Rest up and enjoy the last couple of days of you being preggo and how great it will be to have your in your arms. ::

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
I hear ya girl! I wanted to go natural so bad, but with my baby breech at 37 weeks it's probably not going to happen (and yes I know it can turn at the last minute, but I'm not getting my hopes up). I just had an internal yesterday and was "high and closed" and now I'm hoping there is no progression since that [labor while baby is breech] can result in an emergency c-section.
I just keep telling myself that this is what god intended (for whatever reason), and it's also what's best for the baby.
But I just hate the fact that I'm going to be "scheduling" the birth of my baby. I was all about going into labor and believing that was was the day meant to be my baby's birthday.
It's just me personal opinion, but god forbid you do go into labor before your scheduled date, it won't progress so fast that you would have to go natural. And if it did happen so fast that you went natural then I don't think the baby would go without oxygen or have any complications coming out, as that seems to happen when labor is stalling.
GOOD LUCK!!!

I am positive the doctor would insist on doing it tomorrow if he were worried for yours or the babys safety. Try not to worry too much.

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
everything will be fine. That morning when you wake up to go for your CS, you can still wake up DH and Say "it's that time" because it will be. Sorry if the dr scared you but they have to be honest and inform you of things that could go wrong. But people have been having babies for a very long time even before CS so if he comes before wednesday than let it be. Enjoy it, don't worry about anythine and you and him will both be fine.

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
The emotions that came from having a scheduled C-section with DD#1, for me, were all over the map. I was disappointed that we didn't get the excitement of the start of labor, the not knowing when it would happen. But I was thrilled to be able to plan...I knew when to stop working, when to have my bag ready, etc.
But that morning, I woke up, got a shower, DH and I got in the car and we looked at each other and said "We're going to have a BABY today!"....I imagine it was just as much excitiment, fear, joy and concern as a woman who went into labor. And the end result...a happy, healthy baby girl...that trumped any feelings of disappointment.
And as for going into labor, it is POSSIBLE you could progress quickly if you went into labor, but it isn't likely if it's your first pregnancy. My friend was almost 41 weeks pregnant, the Dr. finally said, let's schedule the c-section for the 23rd. The morning of the 22nd, she lost her mucous plug and started having contractions. SHe called her Dr. who had her come in and they did the c-section right away (her DS was estimated at 10lbs). It was an "emergency" c-section, her body wasn't really in stress of full blown labor, the baby wasn't in distress, and everything went FINE. Her DS is happy and healthy and will be 6 next month.
Stay positive...and if you feel ANY contractions or lose your MP or anything...call your Dr. He can likely do your c-section that day, long before you go into full blown labor. (And then you have your "it's time" moment too!)

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
Dont worry, it is highly unlikely that you would progress that quickly if you went into labor, and as the ladies above stated they would do a sooner cSection(i hesitate to say emergency since it really wouldnt be).
I ended up laboring for two days to be told at 9.5 cm dilated my baby would be too big to get out(there was no clue before since my baby was only estimated 7lb). This turned into an emergent c section in my case. Your docs already have the heads up so you will be taken care of

You and your are going to do fine!! You know how MD's are - always telling the worst "just in case". My SIL vaginally delivered my nephew - 9 lbs, 11 oz!!! She was obviously probably more sore than others but both her and my nephew were perfectly fine. Lots of and for you guys!!!

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
I think the doctor would have scheduled sooner than Wed if he thought it really needed to be sooner! I think everything is going to be great and your baby will be here so soon! And remember, if you do go into labor early, you will just do an emergency c section- which really is not an 'emergency' just unplanned! Watch out for any possible signs and call your doctor with any concerns no matter what at any time. I think 39 weeks 5 days is perfect time for a c section. Not too early and not too late.

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
I just had my baby today after my growth soon showed he might be over 10 lbs. I was not expecting a csection either. I had a vaginal delivery with my first, but she was only 7'10". I am glad I went the cs route bc DS weighed in at 9.3lbs with a 15" head!

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
I know what you mean about having your "vision". I just had DS#2 by c-section and I've known I had to have one since I was 20 wks bc of my placenta previa. I hated every second leading up to it, but once I heard my little boy let out his first cry it was all forgotten. I felt happy and blessed knowing my little baby was finally here. Good luck with your surgery and just know that this is the safest option for you and the baby.

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
I completely understand how you feel. You feel like your body is failing you. We are woman. Woman are meant to push babies out. That's how I felt when I found out I needed a csection (b/c of a blood disorder) It took me some time after the birth to get over the whole situation , of not being able to deliver natuarally. I was really really upset. I felt jipped. But I finally realized that I wasn't jipped. My body had done something amazing, it conceived and held my beautiful daughter for 9 months. It doesn't matter how they come out, as long as they get here. It took me a while to realize that.

Re: C-Section Scheduled for Wednesday - Scared and Sad
I was in the same exact boat as you were, when I was told why I would need a scheduled C- Section. I was devastated. I remember crying in the supermarket right after my appointment because I didn't want to have major surgery. But, then I started to think about the positives, I got to plan ahead, I knew when to leave work, all of our friends and family knew and made their plans accordingly, I got to stay in Stony Brook's new ward a few days longer LOL.
The staff at Stony Brook are nothing short of amazing, they are so attentive and caring. It's hard not to get attached to them. And, the pain meds are pretty sweet.
Good luck on Wednesday and once you hear your son's first cry it doesn't even matter anymore. All you'll want to do is love on him and hold him.
