Cablevision
Can someone please tell me why they charge $5.00/mth for the equipment needed (cable box) in order to get the service that you are paying for?
Thank you.

Re: Cablevision
Just a way at making the cost of the service look cheaper.

Because you can pay for "broadcast basic" which is about $17 buks a month and you don't need a cable box for it!
Hope that helps!

Hmmmm no. Our Broadcast Basic is $11.56. Though we have the next package which is Family Cable (44.95) and this does not require cable boxes either. (or remotes) I wanted to upgrade to IO to include Noggin for my son, but to do this I would have to get a box at $5. and 9.95 for the service per month.
The girl tried to tell me Cablevision has charged for their equipment since their inception. now I may be going back years and years but I do not remember paying for equipment back in the good old days.
Plus, won't I need a box for every TV? Ka-ching.... it just keeps adding up. I'll buy him a DVD and call it day

Re: Cablevision
As far as I know they did charge even years ago, because I can remember my parents being charged the "box rental fee" and "remote fee" years and years ago.
You will not need the box for EVERY tv, just the ones you want the "premium" channels on. For instance DH and I have the Gold package but we only have 2 boxes, neither are in our bedroom. So when we watch TV in our room, we only get channels 2-about 70 (not sure the exact number) but this is perfect for us in bed. In our room we dont get our HBO, Showtime, etc.

Re: Cablevision
we have optimum(with noggin) in the living room but now my kids want it in their bedrooms and that is like $5 a box and $1 a remote that like $150 a year on equiptment.
