Cablevision Customers...
who lowered/attempted to lower their bills:
Were you successful? How much did you save?
I have the tripleplay, three boxes (non-DVR) and what was the silver cable package. I pay 173 per month. I just called and the best they could offer me (without reducing channels) was 158 per month - only $15. I know it's something, but it's not much.
I don't want to go through the hassle of switching to Verizon, but I was hoping for a better offer from Cablevision. Any tips?

Tell them you want to switch to FIOS or DISH. They will lower it. We've done that successfully a few times.

You have to go through their retention department.
In my experience, a regular customer svc agent can't really do anything. So just tell them you're switching or cancelling and you'll get connected to retention.

Hmmmm...that worked for DH and I! It wasn't a huge discount but we got the Triple Play price for another year. Maybe call back and see if you get another agent? Sometimes I think their generosity depends on their mood!

Re: Cablevision Customers...
They might be able to throw in premium channels free for a few months. We had our bill lowered quite a bit, plus that. My husband spent quite a bit of time on the phone with them, but we were having problems with our service. It would be out regularly.

Re: Cablevision Customers...
I did it once and got the triple play promo price for a year, plus free DVR. When it expired and I tried to do it again, they basically told me they are only allowed to do it once. My guess is they get so many calls each day threatening to switch, that they stopped playing the game.

Re: Cablevision Customers...
It's like a game of chicken. You have to say you're going to switch unless they do better (lower you bill, give you more channels, throw in some free DVR boxes). Then if they STILL say no...you have to be willing to switch.
I would bet that the day you call them to actually cancel, they will find a way to lower your bill.
We currently pay $151 and we get every channel and have two boxes. We can probably do better and will try once this offer has expired. But I'm willing to switch to Fios to get a lower price.

Yes, we've done this twice before and have had our rates lowered. We're doing it again this month, too - especially after the whole Food Network/HGTV disagreement with Scripps and then their failure to negotiate with WABC before the Oscars aired.
Angers me that we have to go to the retention department, but the PP is correct -- the regular customer svc people won't help...

That happened to us, too! My husband argued with the cancellation dept for a good 20 minutes and they wouldn't budge. We are canceling with them this weekend and moving over to Fios.
We are currently paying $170 for the Triple Play with NO premium channels, DVR and HDTV.
Fios is offering us the triple play with tons of premium channels, multi-room DVR AND cell phone bills for $240!! This is a huge saving for us!
