Cablevision Triple Play and DVR Questions
Ok, so when we change Cablevison to the new house, we want to add the phone to make it a triple play. They can keep out old number, right? Do we contact AT and T or do they? How does that switchover work?
Also, I'm toying w/the idea of getting the $9.95 DVR as well. I've wanted a DVR forever... but it is worthwhile? Does it work well? Can you REALLY record one program and watch another or record 2 at once? I mean... we'll be saving more than that per month by changing our phone over... I'm still a little nervous for some reason!

Re: Cablevision Triple Play and DVR Questions
Hi,
We did the triple play too & for a year they threw in the DVR. We became addicted to it & continued using it after the year. Yes you can record 2 programs at once (but I believe at that point you have to watch 1 while recording) or you can record one & watch anything else.
We kept our old Verizon number, there was a $40?80? one time fee. We contacted Verizon & told them we wanted to keep the number but then I think they did everything else. We had problems w/ this though b/c Optimum in the meantime assigns you another number until the transfer can occur & so they were charging us for another phone line (or verizon was) for a month. (Our phone didn't ring for 4 days or something yet we had outside service, but the "old" number didn't work initially, just the new number....so stay on top of them.)

Re: Cablevision Triple Play and DVR Questions
DVR will become your best friend. Yes, you can record 2 programs at once (you would have to watch 1 of them or a dvr show if you are watching tv at that time) or you can record 1 and watch another.
as for porting your phone number, there is a one time fee of 40 bucks or so and depending on where the number came from (exchange) they may not be able to port it over. just call them up and ask them before signing up. if you get the phone service, you will be saving money because you have all three

Re: Cablevision Triple Play and DVR Questions
I just changed over and got the DVR for 2 yrs free. And an awesome deal on the movie package.
We told Cablevision that we wanted to keep our old number from Verizon and they did everything for us to port it over. It took a few days to do. And it was a $40 charge.
