Cailen got scratched by my friend's cat tonight
Right on his cheek!!!
And picture day is in a week!!! 
I feel so badly... the cat was letting him pet her, and Cailen LOVED it, he was getting so excited and shrieking excitedly... but then the cat had enough and walked away... Cailen crawled after her, and she swiped him.
It was so quick, he never even cried, just looked at me stunned. I didn't even think he got scratched because it didn't show right away, and then I saw the 2 scratches...
I wiped it with anti bacterial stuff and put neosporin on it - the scratches are very light, but you know how red scratches can get...
How long do you think it will take to heal? They are not deep at all - they are very light, but very red....

If it doesn't look like they broke the skin, it will probably take only a couple of days. We have 6 cats and get scratched here and there and unless its a really deep scratch, they heal pretty quickly.
Hope Cailen is doing better soon!!!

It shouldn't take long, just try and keep it clean. Our cat scratched Troy on his ar, (a few mos ago), I just wiped it w/ peroxide and put bacitracin on it. I do not recall how long it took to heal, but it was not long.

I agree, this will heal it quick. Unfortunately even the sweetest cats can miscontrue the intentions of a baby. My sweetie did this once to DH's goddaughter. I felt so horrible! He'll be as good as new for picture day.

I am dying to get Cailen a kitten in the fall because he loooves animals... I figure a kitten will be good with him because it won't know anything else... Cailen loves animals so much, and he is so gentle with them...
I should have known the cat was trying to get rid of him before the swipe - but she is so gentle with the other kids - and 2 of them have autism!!!

awwww. don't let this deter you from getting one. You just have to monitor them together and eventually they'll learn to respect each others space.

Oh no!!! Poor Cailen How did he handle the whole thing? Was he scared...poor little man.
Definitley use some neosporin and even some aquaphor (I swear that stuff is magic). It will heal up quickly. Lucas had scratched his own face pretty badly and within days it was barely noticable.

The weird thing is, I didn't even realize it happened. The cat swiped, and I think it grazed Cailen, but I didn't see the paw make contact, so I figured it was just a warning "Stay the hell away from me" swipe.
All of a sudden Cailen looked at me with this stunned look on his face, and he had that border-line "I'll cry if you react... but since you aren't reacting, maybe I'm ok" expression on his face (moms of tumblers know what I'm talking about ) so I figured he didn't get scratched....
and then right before my eyes I saw the lines form on his face. By that time, he already forgot what happened. I just picked him up and washed him off. I didn't want to make a big deal and upset my friend. He was totally ok for the rest of the night, but the scratches looked so bad....
this morning they look better though!
