Cake
How much cake do you have at your workplace?
So at my job we have something called “Cake Thursdays.” It was Fruit Friday last quarter for some that wanted a healthier option as their New Year’s resolution. Every day we have a designated “NATO break” from 9-9.30, so we use that time to chat and have coffee/tea and cake.
We have 4 quarters at 10 weeks a quarter. Each quarter our building (there is another building and they do their own thing, which never works, but that’s another story) makes a list and a different person brings in a cake every week.
I like to do more because I love baking and I do not want a whole cake available at home to me, so I bring it into work.
So last quarter, I had to bring in a cake because it is tradition to bring in something when you first start a new job (and your birthday, too), so I did that when my kitchen finally got installed. In addition, I also brought in a chocolate cheesecake, and salted caramel brownies. I was not on the list for Cake Thursday last quarter because of my kitchen situation, so I brought in these things on my own.
This quarter we did our list and I have one week in May. So far I brought in some rhubarb bars the first day of classes a little pick me up, and then I brought in a cake I wanted to try from a new cookbook. I plan to do my designated day and maybe one or two more days in addition.
Our list started late this quarter because someone was observing Ramadan. Fair enough. But when I made the list yesterday, our secretary sounded a bit disappointed because she is on a diet. I feel guilty now about organizing the list this quarter.
Would you be annoyed if you were on a diet in this situation? Should I stop bringing in cakes and treats?

No, you don't need to stop. If everyone else in the office is happy that you're doing it, then I don't think you need to stop for one person. Maybe it could be changed to "snack day" or something like that. This way, people don't have to bring in cake. They can bring in fruit, if they want. But, otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Cake
A cake every single week is a lot. Maybe once a month would be better. Also, it sounds like you don't want the cake at home because you're worried about your self control, but you're bringing it to others who have the same problem. As someone with a history of disordered eating this gets to me. I don't like when people push food on others.

I don’t bring the cake every week. Different people do. I just sometimes do extra.
And point taken about disordered eating. I do deal with this as well. Honestly, I just like to have one slice of cake and not the rest, so I share. And the rest of our “department” does the same. No one is forcing anything on anyone.
I should mention that coffee and cake is a big German tradition. This “Cake Thursday” started way before I started there. I was just in charge of it the first time this quarter.

I have no control over the once a week thing. But maybe I’ll stop bringing in extra. It’s normal here to do coffee and cake once a week here— it’s traditional.

Re: Cake
Maybe when you want to bake for yourself you could freeze the rest and eat it over time? Or perhaps give it to neighbors?

Re: Cake
We have a once a week snack break in the afternoons in our cafeteria. It's not always cake, but there's always some kind of treat.
ETA: As a baker, I'd keep doing what you're doing. If people want to partake they can, if they don't, they don't have to! It's hard when you're on a diet, but the world is full of cake!
