Re: cake ball help
Do you refrigerate or freeze the balls before you dip them?

I definitely recommend putting them in the fridge for a bit before dipping. Personally, I don't like to freeze them because as the chocolate dries, it can crack if the cake ball is too cold.
Also, you may not be using enough frosting mixed with your cake if crumbs are coming off. HTH!
ETA: I also find some kinds of cake are more difficult to work with. I find red velvet cake to be crumby in general (whether as an actual cake, a cupcake, a cake ball, anything!) so that might be a part of it as well.

Yea the biggest problem one is the red velvet....Sometimes I can get away with the red crumbs but other times I cant because of the design. I freeze them and refridge them while I dip some and it still happens. It happens alot when i tap the balls to get the extra chocolate off. I use a fork....can anyone recco something else besides a fork to use to dip a cake ball??

Re: cake ball help
I've never had this problem with cake balls and I make the red velvet ones a lot. I freeze the balls for a few hours or overnight and then use a toothpick to dip them into the chocolate (I use candy melts). I swirl them in a circular motion and then tap the toothpick on the edge of the bowl to remove extra chocolate. I put them onto wax or parchment paper and let the chocolate set for a minute before removing toothpick. I twist the toothpick a little as I pull it out. Sometimes I drizzle balls with leftover chocolate.
