Re: calling all POMERANIAN owners!
my aunt used to have one
- total barkers (and loud too ) - not sure how she was with other dogs (wasn't around any) - was 'okay' around the kids - tons of grooming because they have so much hair

Re: calling all POMERANIAN owners!
My good friend has two poms.
do they get along well with other dogs? Yes, hers do.
with kids? my friend has a 4 year old...sometimes the dogs get a little too rambunctious, but they are pretty good around kids.
are they barkers? YES!!! Quite hyperactive. (at least her two are)
They are super cute dogs.

Re: calling all POMERANIAN owners!
I had a pommie for over 10 years and so have many others in my family.
They "tolerate" other dogs. I had my pommie and DH's bull mastiff living under the same roof for about a year or so. Once they got used to each other (took maybe 2 weeks) all was fine.
They are not good with children.
YES they are barkers. VERY much so.
Grooming - not too bad. I didn't take her to get groomed by a pro very often because I was able to keep up with it myself.

Re: calling all POMERANIAN owners!
Thanks. This one is supposedly "good with children" but she is only 6 months old.
I wrote back to the woman, we shall see what comes of it.

It's not that they are "bad" with children, they just aren't great - particularly with older kids. Because they are small, they get nervous around kids that are rowdy around them. They are afraid of getting stepped on or pushed around etc. You can't really blame them.
I've seen them snap at little kids often (as if to warn them) - but not actually bite.

Re: calling all POMERANIAN owners!
One of my best friends is a dedicated pommie.
They are barkers, there is no doubt about that, but no more than a Chihuahua IMO.
Grooming: She would bathe her dog weekly & then go to the groomers monthly. The dogs get brushed with a slicker & an undercoat coamb daily. Same level as Pyxie, except without all the additional skin regiment.
Great with other dogs & fantastic with kids. And her kids were rough with the dogs when they were babies & the poms took it all in stride. Her poms are several years apart, so when her kids were small she had a puppy & an adult dog. Both have great temperement around her kdis. They also get along well with my crazy pack!

Re: calling all POMERANIAN owners!
Pom's are VERY big barkers...
And they are so-so with children. And possesive.
Find out about the one your thining of getting, if you could try introducing one of your dogs to him/her first?
We wanted one, did a lot of research on them and most bredders shunned us away b/c we wanted kids.

Re: calling all POMERANIAN owners!
As you can tell by my avatar we are pomeranian owners.....best dog my family has ever owned. She is a total love. She's got such a great personality....total lap dog and loves attention. She's always with one of us, but in a good way. She barks but not that often....usually when company comes over. She is a total vegetarian...it's so funny....she loves all green vegetables and turns her head at meat...unless it's chicken....LOL. She some times is a priss and loves to be hand-fed.....total princess. She gets along with all of the animals in the house....cat, rabbits, birds, fish, hampster, etc.
I saw your other post about adopting a Pom.....wish you the best of luck...hope you get it...it's a real cutie. Feel free to ask any questions.....I'm happy to help
