Camera shoppers--if you just aren't sure about DSLR or want something smaller
A photography instructor turned me on to the SONY NEX-5 . He told me that he took it on a vacation when he did not want to carry all of his gear. It is the world's smallest interchangeable lens camera. I believe that there are 3 lenses available for it. Unfortunately, those lenses are not interchangeable with the DSLR cameras. When this photographer told me that he was happy with the photos, I started to look at the specs and I was very impressed. I was almost sold. I would be sold on it if it was a bit cheaper. The price on this is close to what I paid for my Nikon D-60 and I just bought another lens so I can't justify buying it right now. However, when I am ready to buy a point and shoot, I hope to get this one. If I had never gotten started with a DSLR, I might have considered this camera. I am going to recommend it to my parents, who would never want to carry around a DSLR but are always trying to get better photos. I thought this info could help someone with holiday shopping. (No, I am not paid to advertise this thing. In fact I am more of a Nikon devotee).

In person, the big difference between this and other point and shoots is that the lenses are wide but they are lightweight and they don't make the camera front heavy. The one drawback I see is that it has no built in viewfinder. I did use the viewfinder when I had a point & shoot so I would miss it.
PSA about dropping cameras, I dropped my BIL's DSLR camera because he put it in our stroller without telling me and then when I went to get something else, the strap was caught up in the pile of stuff I had in the stroller. The camera went flying by the strap. I felt so bad but it turned out that I only broke a filter. Now he and I both have a few camera bags and we will never go without filters.
