Camp!
What's your thoughts on camp for kids? We paid back in February, but decided we are not sending the boys to camp.
I am going to go crazy I'm sure and the boys love camp, but can't take the risk. Around so many kids, counselors, etc.
This is gonig to be a long summer and who even knows what's going to happen in Sept.

Re: Camp!
They cancelled my sons camp. If not I would’ve sent him. He needs to start living.

Camp!
As of now, the camp my boys are signed up for is still on. My girls were going to a small half day camp a few days a week at the local church, but that has been cancelled. If the boys camp opens, they will be going.

Camp!
We have not heard yet if our camp will be open. They did say that IF they are, it will only run for 6 weeks and not 8, starting in Mid July. Ironically, those are the dates we signed up for. However, after MANY discussions, we've decided to keep her home this summer.

Re: Camp!
If camp is open, my kids are going. They cannot sit in their room on their phones for 8 weeks. That being said, I understand why parents would not want to send their kids. Everyone should have the choice and be able to make their own decision. In any event, yesterday it sounded like Cuomo was going to ban camp.

This. I just want the choice. That's all. Everyone can decide individually what they are comfortable with- no judgement.

Omg speak Easy camps!! That’s absolutely gonna be a thing !
I think it’s gonna be how I grew up. Each family gets the kids for a day. One day we’d be in one yard all day playing w that mom watching us, then we’d be at another yard and that mom watched us.

This is the issue for me. If people are comfortable sending their camp, or NEED to because they have to work, the option should be there. I know this opinion isn't popular, but enough already. I'm not saying open everything, but SOMETHING. This morning DiBlasio said the CDC has officially linked the new illness to the virus. But of 145 children, 80 of them tested negative, and have no antibodies. So, not even the CDC knows what is going on anymore. If we wait for everyone to know exactly what is going on, we might as well resign ourselves to living like this for the next two years.

I see the issue of giving people a choice to send their children to camp but if the camps do not feeling comfortable opening up safely? I see that as the bigger issue. They should not be forced to open and potentially expose children and staff if the owners do not feel comfortable. Our camp still hasn't made a decision. My husband doesn't want to send our son but I feel like hearing what accommodations the camp will make first. I need a break (and will be pretty pregnant over the summer) and my son needs routine, but only we if we feel like it will be safe.

One kid goes to sports camps offered through the school district and local colleges so I am sure they will be cancelled. I've heard from the baseball one and they are hoping to try to operate but, I am doubtful.
One kid goes to camp at our daycare. I think they will be open but, it will be more daycare, just camp - sitting inside all day - so I doubt I will send him.

Re: Camp!
I hope camps are able to safely open up this summer, but it doesn't seem likely. DS and I are scheduled to go to two different Scout camps this summer. Lots of BSA summer camps around the country are closed this summer. I think it's because nobody wants to be "the new hot-spot camp" that the virus showed up in and spread to hundreds of kids....

I was so upset when they sent me the email that my sons camp was closed. They probably won’t open the pool in my building. I am seriously researching where to relocate for a few months.

Re: Camp!
So far the travel camp I had signed my kids up for cancelled. I am waiting to hear back if the scout sleep away camp or the art camp will run. I’ve paid in full for all of them and was told I will be receiving a refund for the first one.

If someone doesn't feel comfortable opening their business, then they don't have to open it. Just like with anything else. If I owned a boutique and was told I could open, but I was too afraid to, I would have to stay closed and deal with the loss of my business.

I agree with this. There are some that NEED camp- parents will have to work, no one to watch their children. We didn't come to the decision not to send her easily. I have tremendous guilt that she'll be bored, not outside enough, not enough social interaction. But, her camps does the pool 2/3 times a week, plus trips to all those kiddie places- which are cesspools of germs anyway. She always ends up sick at least once or twice during the 8 weeks of camp. If it's a scaled back version of camp- let's say, playing in the park all day-- she's 10 and will be bored. And I don't need to pay for that- she can play at home. I can work from home indefinitely and my schedule is pretty flexible too. But I absolutely do not judge anyone who sends their kid.

My VP peaced out today for his house in South Carolina because things are opening there and he'd rather be down there than up here sitting in his yard. I'm so fuking jealous.

Yep. My inlaws are leaving this weekend for their house in West Palm Beach. They will quarantine for 14 days, and then they are staying indefinitely. They told us to come spend the summer with them, DH & I are not opposed to that if we are still fully shut come late June.

There won’t be anything for my son to do, the closing of our pool in the building is my last straw. Main part of the reason we downsized and moved here. I rather go down south and see if I can rent a house with a pool atleast. Enjoy things that are open and live a semi-normal life for the summer.
The only bummer is my husband will have to stay up here and work. But I can’t do this anymore.

Florida lifted more restrictions today- that might be a good choice. You can at least go out to dinner, work out in a gym, beaches are fully opened.

My DD goes to a camp at Kiddie Academy which is like a daycare. Apparently, they are open. I am waiting to hear back about summer schools from Cuomo. My son qualifies for ESY over the summer and if there is no summer school, I will have to work from home since there are no other options for him... if that is the case I will be keeping my DD home as well and saving the money.

Re: Camp!
Our camp sent us an email stating that they intend to do some sort of childcare this summer. They are still waiting to find out exactly what the options are. The very first second my kids can go I will be sending them. I NEED to get back to work. We did 4 weeks last year and we will probably do the same again.
