Can a child have serious vomitting but not be sick? (Long and TMI)
I am trying to decide whether or not to go to a doctor in the a.m. My 1 year old son was in a great, happy mood all day today. He ate fairly well, played, laughed, etc. When changing him for bed, I noticed his stomach (which is usually a chubby little buddha belly) appeared to be a little more full than usual, but chalked it up to my imagination. Shortly after, he was sitting on the couch quietly when all of a sudden out of the blue, started violently throwing up. He did it 3 or 4 times consecutively, and everything he ate the entire day came up (sorry). After that, during his clean-up bath, he seemed fine again, smiling, and his belly didnt look as swollen.
What on earth could that have been? I want to believe that something he ate just didn't agree with him (even though what he ate was his usual foods). But with all this talk of viruses going on and poor Jodi's situation, I am now paranoid. Did this ever happen to anyone else? What could it be?
PS - my son also has an ear infection, but he always has an ear infection, and did not have any fever today.

DS had the dreaded stomach virus -- he threw-up 3 times, then fell right to sleep (it started around 10:00pm), slept well through the night, then the diarreah started in the morning.
The entire time he was pretty normal and not running a fever -- he just really didn't want to eat. So, it is possible your son does have a virus (I, personally, wouldn't go to the doctor just because he threw-up, but that's your call) or it could be something he ate. Wait and see if the diarreah shows up -- then you'll know. FWIW, DS got over the virus in 3 days, without too much difficulty, so not every child reacts as badly to it. Hope he feels better.

Thank you for your reply...DS threw up two more times since I wrote the original post!
I called the doctor on call and am waiting for a call back to see if there is anything I can give him to settle his stomach.

Uh-oh, sounds like the virus. As you probably already know, the most important thing is to keep him hydrated. Hope he's better soon!

I've had situations where my children have thrown up & then felt completely better (like a sour stomach or phlegm). It usually happens in the morning.
Not sure what it is but if he's still vomiting, he's sick.
