Can Any Mommies Give Any Insight If To Me If Your Baby, Like Mine Has Bad Eczema

Hi,

My DD is 7 MOS. She gets a lot of dry patches on her body, AKA Eczema so the DR told me. She gets it the worst on her belly. It's like thise oval patches all over her belly. Sometimes, (expecially today) they flare up and get worse. Teething possibly causes it worse??? Then the next day you see it much milder. I use Aquaphor per my DR all the time but its doesnt seem to really help.

When I was at my DR last time I asked her if I should be concerned, she said nope. My Mom thinks after seeing how it's so flared up today that we should possibly see a Pediatric Dermatologist to see if there is some stronger medicine to put on it (although I hate to use something for no reason).

Does anyone have any similiar issues with their child and can anyone recommend a great Pediatric Dermatoligist in Suffolk County?

Thanks a bunch and Happy Mother's Day!

Keri

THANKS FOR ALL THESE GREAT IDEAS LADIES, I KNEW I COULD COUNT ON YOU ALL!

is your baby breast fed or on formula?

My dd gets it on her face and every time we try to switch to milk based form Alimentum she gets it worse. She has not been allergy tested and we dont think it is a milk intolerance because she can have some milk products like cheese, but for some reason eczema on the face and constipation happens EVERY time she gets excessive milk products.

Hi Keri DS has it bad too! Some days its ok some days are horrible. I grease him up with Aveeno every day. Only use Aveeno bath products on him. Sometimes I give him an Oatmeal bath. And when its REALLY bad on his face I put a tiny bit of hydrocortisone cream. (Ped prescribed it) but I dont like to use it often. It's nothing to worry about just make sure you don't put any products that are harsh on your baby.

Thanks! Aveno made it worse. We only use Cetaphil for soap. I like to think it isn't serious but it upsets me everytime I look at it.

Thanks a million!

Re: Can Any Mommies Give Any Insight If To Me If Your Baby, Like Mine Has Bad Eczema

DD gets very bad seasonal eczema - it's flaring up right now actually. We lather her up in Aquaphor every night, and for bad flare-ups, her ped prescribed a cream (which we only use during flare-ups and it cures them within a day or two). I would say she started on the cream when she was about 6 months old, but we have only had to use it a handful of times since then, and she's 18+ months now.

Try a tea tree oil product. Thursday's Plantation line is good. You can find it online or at health food stores. It worked wonders for my nephew.

My DD is 19 months and has had eczema for months and all the doctors kept telling me was to use cetaphil and aquafor but it didnt help. I started to use cortaid cream but found a mustela soap at BBB and that cleared it up. After a week of wasing with the soap it was and has stayed away. The soap is for eczema and cost $14 but $$ well spent if I dont have to use a bunch of prescription creams on her.

Re: Can Any Mommies Give Any Insight If To Me If Your Baby, Like Mine Has Bad Eczema

If your doctor isn't too concerned about it, it might not be bad enough to go to a pediatric dermatologist. My DS had it very badly and still has some problems with it. He was waking himself up 4 times or more per night for a few weeks, because of the scatching - this from a baby that was sleeping through the night at about 3 months. Our doctor noticed it at every well visit, starting at 3 months old. If it will set your mind at ease to see a pediatric dermatologist, then I would say go - it can't hurt and ours actually gave us different advice than the ped did.

Unfortunately, I think you have to try a bunch of cremes to see what works best for your DC. I tried things other people recommended and they didn't help at all, or even made it worse. I have lots of bottles of lotions that I now am using up on myself, LOL. For us, Aquaphor is really only good when his skin is REALLY dry. Otherwise, I think it gets too heavy, especially in the warmer weather. Last year when it got warm, I think the Aquaphor was clogging up his pores. We mainly use the liquid Cetaphil cleanser in the tub, and then I use Cetaphil creme moisturizer (in the tub) right after the bath. You can try hydrocortizone creme too, if you have a bad breakout, but that's not something I would use on a daily basis.

No wool clothes or bubble baths, ever. I stay away from fleece directly on his skin as well. Use some kind of scent free laundry detergent (we use Tide free) and no dryer sheets. My dermatologist also told me to take an article of his clothing and put it in a glass or a bowl of water after the wash was done. If any suds or bubbles show up, put DC's clothes through an extra rinse cycle in the washing machine.

We go to Dr. Krystal, in Lake Success. I think he has an office in Suffolk, but I am not sure. Good luck - it is sometimes a daily battle, but we do have long periods of time where we have little to no rash to deal with. It definitely has improved as he has gotten older, so I am hoping he will eventually outgrow it.

We go to Dr. Krystal, he has an office in Setauket. He's only there one day a week I think? Some tips he gave us- check your laundry after you wash it, if it looks soapy run the laundry through two rinse cycles, no wool clothes or blankets, bathe the baby every other day with cetaphil. He prescribed us a steroid cream for his face bc it was really bad. He recommened using Cerave lotion for his body, which you can find in a pharmacy. Hope this helps.

DD has it too.
We already saw 2 pediatric dermatologists.
(To be honest our pediatrician also told us there was no need for a pediatric dermatologist, but we went anyway and SO GLAD we did).
One gave us .1% hydrocortisone CREAM(spl) but it didn't help so we went to another dr and he gave us 2.5 % hydrocortisone OINTMENT(which is little too strong, so have to use very little and not as frequently)
BOTH DOCTORS(and the pediatrician) TOLD US:
-Use CERAVE(BUY AT THE DRUGSTORE, AND MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE BLUE BOTTLE, NOT GREEN) moisturizing lotion 2x a day (REALLY HELPED)
-No baths , but if we do give one only once a week just for like 5 minutes and almost cool water(just give regular shower every other day or every 2-3 days in winter, in summer time we'll go back to every day)
-Use Aveeno baby body wash or Cetaphil
-Use cotton PJs
-Make sure baby isn't too cold or too hot.
-Use mild detergent(we use "dreft"the other mild ones we tried made her break out)
-Use cotton sheets in the crib.

Maybe try these things(and what others posted) and see if it helps.
