Can anyone give your room darkening tips
DD is getting up earlier and earlier every day. I think it's a combination of the 4,000 birds and the light. I DO have the Home Depot room darkening blinds on her window, but they aren't really doing the job.
What works for you???

I have black out blinds AND black curtains, its like a dungeon in there.
But on the weekends he still wakes up at 5.50 am.

We bought those room darkening shades at Home Depot..they did nothing...what a waste.
I think they're just going to wake when they wake. Our niece is 8 & she STILL wakes up at 6am. A client's son is 6 and he wakes up at 5:30am, I think we're just cursed w/ early risers!

We got balck out crutains, they did nothing. We got a balck out shade to go with it, did nothing. I got film for the windows to tint them, still too bright. Finally I put black paper on the top pwindows with the film on the bottom with the nblack out shade and curtains and now it is finally dark.
They were not napping during the day once we went to toddler beds and it was because it was too bright, they have a south facing huge window and there are no tress blocking the sun.

We just bought the blackout shade this week and it is working wonders. He use to get up and 6-6:30am now, it's 7:30-8am. Try the shade.

We had the bird problem too...and being the guy that grew up in Queens with a concrete backyard...my DH ripped out pretty much all of the trees on our property 
Short of doing that....I would say a white noise machine to play all night into the morning for the noise.
As far as making the room darker...DH put in dark cherry wood blinds and then we have heavy curtains as well that we close at night. We have a sky light in the room so I made a curtain to cover it.

Our room darkening shades block out everything. DD's room is totally dark. They are the pleated ones. We have them in our room too. I love them.

I ordered a room darkening cordless pleated shade from JCPenny, it does a good job of blocking the light out.

We have black out roller shades from Ace hardware behind out regular roman shades. Works well but not pitch black...what also helps - my older son has curtains. We make sure every night we pull them over the sides of the roman shade to keep less sun light from coming in.
