Can anyone reccommend a karate school in the PJ area
that is fun and not heavily focused on belts but about the kids learning and having fun?

Not sure if St. James is too far for you but if not, I highly recommend Shaolin Self Defense Center on 25A (in the dunkin donuts centers) Chris and Ryan are the most amazing senseis --not sure if i spelled that right-- and the kids love them. I know people travel from Port Jeff and even further for them!

DD went to a birthday part at Crino's in Stony Brook on 347 (right behind the Burger King). I was very impressed and considered enrolling her, but we are a good 30 minute drive from that area so I enrolled her in a more local place.

I have heard GREAT things aboutTheodorou's in Selden- its a Jiu Jitsu school.... thinking about sending Rj there :)LINK
