Re: Can anyone tell me about Port Jefferson Station??
From what i understand the better areas are north of 347 and there is an awsm area off Boyle Rd by Rush St (John St, Taylor St., etc). Also i heard the worst part of PJS is by the lake streets and Jayne Blvd (superior st, and the rest in that pocket). HTH

Re: Can anyone tell me about Port Jefferson Station??
I lived in PJS for about 5 years. Loved it there. I was told that North of 347 is better. We lived on Washington Ave. The traffic can be bad at times but everything is convenient. Its a little bit of a hike to get to the LIE.

I've lived in PJS since 2005. I used to live in an apt complex by the train station and now I live on the Heatherwood Golf course.
If you have any questions, feel free to fm me. I love where we bought, the neighborhood is great and it's convenient to a lot of places.

Re: Can anyone tell me about Port Jefferson Station??
I grew up there, and my parents are still there. My youngest brother is a senior in the HS. Its a pretty little town where kids still have lemonade stands and people keep their doors unlocked. Schools are small (I think the HS just broke 1000 students) but good overall. Lots of Honors/AP options for strong students, solid SpEd program for students that need extra support. But diversity among the student pop is minimal.
Housng prices are reasonable - you get a lot of house and land for your money. I think the nicest neighborhood is the "Birchwood" section, which is behind Boyle Road elementary school. Most of the neighbrohoods are fine. I'd stay away from areas close to 112, but that's JMO.
347 $uckS during rush hour. If you're commuting to NYC, you might want to look at other neighbrohoods - the train is LONG and infrequent. Best of luck!!!

Re: Can anyone tell me about Port Jefferson Station??
I lived there for quite a few years. The taxes are less than a lot of areas...just a bonus! I was North of 347, and that is supposedly a more desireable area. But I don't know, I am south of 347 now, and love the neighborhood I am in now so much better. ALl depends on where you found a house. I also recommend staying away from those Lake streets. I found a house I LOVED in there, until I looked up the sex offender registry and there were like 4 on the same street as the house I looked at. Yikes.
