Are you looking to stay within commuting distance to NYC?

My BIL just moved to Avon. They love it, its just west of Hartfod and they are very happy, but it's a haul for us to go visit them!

My brother and SIL used to live in Fairfield, and them moved to Huntington (Shelton). They have since moved to MA, but loved where they were in the Shelton area.

I've lived in a few different areas of CT for the past 6 years. I love it here. In terms of prices, Fairfield County is similar to LI due to its proximity to Manhattan. While there are very nice areas, it's extremely $$$.

There are so many great areas in the state, but it really helps to know what you're looking for. Do you want to be close to a city or more rural? How far do you want to be from LI? How important are schools? Do you want a walkable downtown area? It will also depend on where you can find a job and what's your price range.

I really love central CT. It's reasonably priced, especially compared to Fairfield County, and some of the best school districts in the state are located there.

Litchfield County is also really beautiful, but more quiet than the towns surrounding Hartford. I also really like Middlebury and Woodbury.

FM me if you have any questions.

Hi, we have a young son so schools are super important to u sand young familty neighborhoods would be nice. But we do not need to be close to long island or the city and actually look forward to a more relaxed living enviorment,we love areas with lots of history so an older home would be nice, close to a charming downtown w/cute shops /little places to eat so on... are price range would be between $299 and $400.thousand.

You should definitely check out Litchfield County. I'm not very familiar with most of the towns, but Litchfield is very beautiful and charming. Woodbury, Middlebury and Bethlehem might appeal to you also although I'm not sure what's available in your price range.

I'm most familiar with central CT. IMO, West Hartford is very similar to LI. The houses are close together and the property sizes are small. The taxes are very high. However, there are a lot of young families and professionals who live there. It has a very neighborhood-type feeling and there is a really cute downtown area. You will probably get the least bang for your buck there compared to other central CT towns. The schools are very good.

Glastonbury is the "West Hartford" east of the River. The property sizes are a bit bigger and there is less of a centralized downtown area. The taxes are also high. The schools are excellent.

Farmington is also a very nice town. The property sizes are a bit larger and the taxes are significantly lower. The schools are great.

Simsbury is a bit more rural than the other towns. The property sizes tend to be significantly larger, but the taxes are pretty high. The school district is one of the best in the state. It has a small, but charming downtown area. There is no direct access to the highway in Simsbury. It could easily take 20-30 minutes through Avon and West Hartford in order to reach I-84.

Canton is another nice, more rural town near Simsbury. The schools are good. Again, it could be a pain if you commuted to Hartford b/c of the lack of highway access, but many people do this.

Typically, in those towns, you could find a 1700-2400sq house. In West Hartford, the lot would likely be less than .25 acre. In places like Simsbury, you may be able to get at least .75 acres.

Hope this helps.

We live in the Avon area (mentioned above) and absolutely love it. The schools are unbelievable and the cost of living can't be beat. We are in the house market too and expect to get something nice for $300-350K.

I went to Uconn and I have lived in that area, in New Britain, and in Waterford... The East Lyme/Mystic area is beautiful. Most of the surrounding areas are the way you described, FM me if you have any questions!
