Can anything be done for the dogs in pet stores

The posts today have me wondering. Other than making puppy mills illegal, can anything be done to help the dogs in pet stores without buying them and adding to the puppy mill industry? If I walked into one, I am sure I would buy one because my heart would break. I am genuinely asking because I can't think of anything....

I was wondering this myself. I admit I used to go into the puppy stores and used to feel so horrible. Now that I know more about puppy mills, I don't dare step foot into one. One thing I always noticed about these stores as well was that the puppies always seemed drugged- they were so lethargic, not like you would expect a puppy to be.

I suppose we as the public could protest the stores, have some sort of demonstration near them or outside of them. Is that illegal? I don't know the rules about protests.

Re: Can anything be done for the dogs in pet stores

Years ago when Petland was in the mall & they were selling puppies my mom & a bunch of her friends called the ASPCA on a regular basis, as the dogs were always a mess (dirty, malnourished, etc.) Eventually they stopped selling puppies in their LI stores. We are talking about a massive phone assault though; my mom & about 50 of her friends calling once per week....

I think also if you can prove that the pet stores are selling the dogs with fake pedigrees then they are not entitled to sell the dogs & they would be adopted out, but that is hard for one person to prove and most likely would require an attorney....

I guess cuz he was the only one who called. They just told him that when they visited they could find no proof of abuse.
Of course, they didn't show the police or agents the attic of the place, they said there was nothing there.Chat Icon

Wow that is bad. I am a fan of using a cell phone camera in any situation where something must be "proven." Not that it can do anything in this case, but maybe we can agree to take cell phone pics of anything we think might warrant a call to the ASPCA....
