Can anyuone shed some light on this...re: children's PJ's and fabric softener
My mom was just telling me something about a guy she works with (who has a 1 1/2 year old) THe baby was at the pediatrician and they had some machine to detect a certain chemical in children....apparently this chemcial is released when you use fabric softener on flame resistant PJs....I have been googling this topic and cannot find any info on it....anyone heard of this, and know the whole story????????
TIA

I've only ever read that you aren't supposed to use fabric softener because it decreases the effectiveness of the flame retardant.

Yeah, I've heard this too, but this was something about a specific machine and apparently the baby's levels of this chemcial were pretty high....so weird that this wouldn't be one of the "hot topics" currently discussed in the media, etc.(if there is any merit to it)

Sounds weird to me. Maybe the father was confused?

Don't know about the machine, but I wiki'd antimony: Antimony is used in flame-proofing, paints, ceramics, enamels, a wide variety of alloys, electronics, and rubber. Antimony trioxide is the most important of the antimony compounds and is primarily used in flame-retardant formulations. These flame-retardant applications include such markets as children's clothing, toys, aircraft and automobile seat covers. Antimony and many of its compounds are toxic. Clinically, antimony poisoning is very similar to arsenic poisoning. In small doses, antimony causes headache, dizziness, and depression. Larger doses cause violent and frequent vomiting, and will lead to death in a few days.
