Can babies/children get mono?
My brother has been really sick since Monday. They did a strep culture, and when it came back neg. the DR wanted to re-examine him.
PS- the Dr is 99% sure he has mono, the blood work will confirm by the end of the week.
DS is at my parents every Monday and Tuesday. (not to mention we visit on the weekends) And my brother is always home, playing with DS.
The Dr said that at this point he is no longer contagious, however he WAS contagious the 3 weeks prior to having any symptoms.
Now Im all freaked the DS is gonna get sick! Aside from wanting my baby to feel WELL- Im so excited about the 3 day weekend, since Ive been working my azz off. I totally don't wanna spend it stuck inside!
I mean, the dont share cups or anything like that, and they dont kiss on the lips, but my brother carries RJ around the house, and is constantly playing with him...

Re: Can babies/children get mono?
Yes kids can get it, but it's hard to contract. A co-worker of mine has a daughter who got it. It's really only contagious by saliva (that's why it's referred to as the kissing disease!). I know when her daughter had it, the only restriction was no physical activity since the spleen can rupture. There was really no fear of spreading to the classmates since she wasn't sharing cups or kissing, and she was allowed in class, so I think your DS should be fine!

I had it at 19, made out with my boyfriend for up to a week before diagnosis, and he never got it.

I had it @ 16 years old, and both my mom and dad caught it, I wasnt sharing cups, or kissing them on the mouth...

I had it when I was a teenager and never passed it to anyone in my house! My mom was very careful to put everything I ate and drank right into the dishwasher--lol
