can dogs get sick from rain water?
maggie was going to town on the street yesterday licking up all the rain water. Last night she woke us up at midnight to go to the bathroom. My DH took her out and she had the runs..... what do you think??

I would say yes for sure. Dont know what was in that...alot of dirt, etc. Dirt makes my dogs throw up so I am sure odds are yes. Or it could be just coincidence. How is she today?

this morning she was her usual self. My dad walked her and said she had some loose poops again. You would think Maggie was my REAL child since we both have horrible stomach issues!

You should def try to curb that next time it rains b/c they can get sick from that. There could be other dog's feces in the water...they could contract roundworm, worms, parasites, etc. Is your dog on a monthly dewormer? It would be a good suggestion esp due to this.

Yes they can. After a rain storm you aren't even supposed to go clamming in the bay because the water runoff is so toxic.

Absolutely!! Theres bacteria in the water. My dog got super sick that way. Just keep an eye on her and offer lots of fresh water

just an FYI....
there's a new vaccine out for dogs for some bacterial infection.....It starts with an L....I can't remember then name right now 
The bacteria comes from raccoons and other animals and is present in things such as puddles.
I wasn't going to get it but my vet told me that this infection can be deadly so I got it.
Maybe you should call your vet and look into it.
I just looked at my vet papers to get the name...it's leptospirosis

I just looked at my vet papers to get the name...it's leptospirosis
My dogs get this vaccine and the way they can contract lepto is through animal URINE, esp wildlife urine.
What's even worse is HUMANS can contract lepto from their pets if the pet gets it. So that's why my vet vaccinates for it.
