Can I get rid of a car without the title?
I don't want to sell it. It is dead on the street and I just want to get rid of it. The title is somewhere in my mess of stuff but I don't want to leave it on the street in Queens anymore, especially since I will be giving up my apartment at the end of the week to be a full-time upstate resident. Help.

To be honest I dont think you can. I have a boat in my backyard with no title and I cant sell it or donate it with out that. They told me that I could have stole it. Without the title you cant prove that it is yours to sell or donate.

Can you apply for a replacement title and then get rid of it?

You need a title. You can't even donate it to anyone without a title. You can go to DMV for a new title but they mail it to you and they charge you for it.

No you can't get rid of the car without the title. Here is the website to DMV if you have any questions about it.

It is a 1996 Plymouth Neon. The battery's dead and I don't want to spend the money to put a new one in just to get rid of it.

the battery is probably around $90. It's real easy to swap out yourself.

WOW does the car run? I would just spend the $50 to get a new battery...and then get the title and put a sign on the car for $1000 or best offer. I am sure you will sell it.

It has about 88,000 miles on it. A few little dings and it needs a wash. It leaks oil but as long as I made sure to put some in regularly, I never had a problem with it. It would be a good station car.
I did try to sell it on Craig's list for $800.
