Re: Can i post here about a dog for adoption?
I have a very naughty dog. From day one, he was very aggressive, never listened, did what he wanted, etc. We consulted with the vet, who said to make sure we exercise him more, and possibly add another puppy, so they could tire each other out and always have a companion. We rescued a second puppy and added some very minor and VERY inexpensive training ($30 a session) Today, although he has his moments, the change in him is amazing. He no longer snaps at me, he listens when told to do something, and is very content having his brother with him all day. DH has two little boys who live with us, and we managed to make it work. It takes an effort, but it is most certainly do-able. That is if you are willing to make it work. IF you want the name of the trainer we used I will be more than happy to give you her name and number. That way you do not have to worry about the financial and you can give this option a try.

Have you tried PetCo or Petsmart for training? Very often their classes are cheaper than a personal trainer. How about calling a doggie training school to see if they offer training classes for free or reduced cost...sometimes they may do this if they have new dog trainers that they are training. You can teach an old dog new tricks.
What about your DH or SO spending time with the dog when you are tending to the baby and vice versa. This way at least the dog gets some attention everyday...even if it's a long walk or just some play time at home.
As far as the growling and snapping....my cocker does that now every once in a while. We plan to have him trained before our baby arrives in Nov. but I must tell u that my 3 year old nephew is around constantly and he bothers the dog and never once has the dog bit him.
Good luck to you whatever you do but Please Please Please do not bring the dog to the pound. At his age he will be put down fast and the chances of him being adopted are very slim unfortunately. You should also try petfinders.org...I believe you can put a free ad up and you can also search for more rescue groups that may take him.

Look, you may be doing this for 'the right reason' in your mind, but when you get an animal, it is for the life of that animal, not just when something (someone in this case) comes along and trumpts your attention. Tons of people have been in your shoes (new Mom, works full time), but they don't think to get rid of their animal. I'm not saying you are a bad person, but you are about to make a bad decision. How can you after having this dog, who I'm sure gave you unconditional love right from moment one, give her away after 4 years?????? How is she seriously not a huge part of your heart? That's just crazy. Of course the dog will get into things if you aren't giving her attention. I'm sure you could make it work. It angers me to no end when people just get rid of their dog because it gets a bit hectic.
Well, I can say my child is more important that my dog. She is not a person, she is a dog. If you don't have a child maybe you don't understand that. And when she is trying to rip the socks off my baby's feet (trying to play) it makes me upset. I have been trying my best to find a good home for her for a long time now. Do you think it is fair to her? To be alone all the time up to 11 hours a day then when we are home it's all about bathing and feeding the baby? That is not fair to the dog either which is why she would be better with another family also. I did not come here to be judged but instead to find a home for my dog.
I wasn’t judging you, but giving you my opinion. I do not have a child yet (but that’s not for lack of TTC for the last two years). However, WHEN I do have a child I can 100% be sure I will not be getting rid of my two dogs. I chose them, not the other way around. I made a commitment to them for their life. I do not view them as just dogs, they are literally part of our family and mine and DH’s hearts. We couldn’t imagine life without them. And we continually talk about when the time comes for us to be blessed and have a child in our home, how great it will be for our two dogs to have a little one to play with. I did not come at you as an attack. There are tons of people that are going through what you are going through right now, but would never think of getting rid of their animal. The one they had that shared their life and gave joy before a baby came into the picture. I think if you just spent some time training and exercising the dog, all the pieces will come together. Watch The Dog Whisperer. He has taken the worst dogs and made them awesome pets. It can be done is what the point is. No attacks, just assertive opinions. I have family and friends that have pets before and after having children. They get through it and you will too, and I bet a couple of years from now you will be glad you didn’t get rid of your dog. Don’t you think your dog has feelings too? Don’t you think your dog will miss YOU when you give it away? It’s so sad it has had other homes. The dog can’t talk, so I am defending it. If the dog bit you or your child, then I would agree to give it away. In this case, I just feel that you are taking the easy way out. Life is not always easy, but to get rid of a dog that just needs a bit of exercise (so it will tire its’ mind and then not try and rip the socks off your baby) and training is upsetting. Also, I think I paid $20 per session for private training for one dog I had years ago. Also about a year ago we took my then 1 y/o puppy to the high school for group training. I think that was only $50 for 8-10 times (not sure exactly). It was well worth it. I would look into that.

Re: Can i post here about a dog for adoption?
Calling around to some of the local vets is probably a good idea i know alot of them do take in animals or might know someone looking for an older dog. Maybe put up some flyers at the local supermarket and where ever else you can. I wish you good luck and hope you won't have to bring your dog to a shelter or the pound.

My story is similar to yours. We went through group and private training. I would love to find a way to have some refresher training and to get answers to some questons about when my baby comes. I'd love to get the # of a trainer who charges less than the one we had. You have FM.
