Can I wear a knee length kimono dress to a black tie wedding?
As stated in Spring Baby's post-- I believe women can get away with a lot of different things to a black tie affair...
I am feeling pretty fat right now and I don't have many options... I have a wedding next weekend and the only thing that I really have to wear is this dress-- I wore it to SIL's wedding celebration which was "semi-formal/cocktail attire"... I mean, I am not one to say-- this type of dress needs to be worn to x type of affair... I am open minded and always feel I look appropriate.
Anyway-- it's DH's friend and the bride wore a hot pink knee length dress to my wedding-- if that makes a difference.
Here is a pic-- don't have a full shot (or at least one I am willing to post!!)

Though I think it's very pretty, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable wearing that to a black tie wedding. It looks like the type of thing you could dress up or down, but it's not quite evening wear.

yeah-- he'll prob wear a tux.
I just don't know what else to wear-- I feel like, rather wear something that I am comfy in and won't feel AS self-conscious. I mean-- no one is going to be looking at MY dress...

It looks really pretty but I don't think it's dressy enough for a black tie wedding.

i think its too casual and bright. if it was black then it would be fine but printed dress like that is a little too casual

Re: Can I wear a knee length kimono dress to a black tie wedding?
thanks for the opinions... At the end of the day, I really need to go with what actually fits and what looks the best on me.
I have one other outfit I can wear-- it's my RD dress, which is on the fancy side and I wear a black velvet blazer over it in the colder months.
I wore it to a Bar Mitzvah and on NYE... since there is "black" in the outfit-- it may *appear* more appropriate.
I really need new dresses-- but, of course I don't want to buy anything new until I lose a few pounds. The conundrum of every woman!

Don't get stuck in that trap! I put off buying a winter coat for a whiel for the same reaons.
Just try & get something decently priced, ( like at Filene's or Lohmann's) that looks great on you now, and when you lose weight, since you didn't spend a lot on it, you can get it altered, or give it away. You proabably wont' care that much, b/c you'll be excited about beign a new smaller size!
If you don't buy soemthing new, the RD dress sounds better--what color is it? How long is it?
Or, can you borrow something from someone?

The RD dress is just below the knee and is a print too, but it's less bright. And it is also very sparkly around the neck-- let me see if I can find a pic..
here is a pic... and I will wear a nice, black velvet jacket over it to keep me warm-- the thing is like wearing a scarf!
won';t post-- here is a link to my LIW album http://www.liweddings.com/community/album/?ID=591&SID=71&P=14117

Re: Can I wear a knee length kimono dress to a black tie wedding?
I don't think either is appropriate for a Black Tie Wedding IMHO - But I would always rather be overdressed than underdressed. - I completely understand not wanting to buy a new dress while you're not feeling 100%, but wouldn't you feel even more uncomfortable if you got there and felt underdressed ??
