Can I wear a short dress to a black tie manhattan wedding?
It's been a while since I went to a wedding. Most weddings I went to, I wore long dresses. However, more recently, I noticed my friends wearing shorter dresses to weddings.
I am invited to a black tie wedding Saturday night in Manhattan. Is it appropriate to wear a short dress or must I wear a long gown?

ETA: I was thinking of wearing something like this.

Especially for Manhattan.

Definitely. I went to a black tie wedding at the plaza several months ago, and wore a fancy knee-length dress. A lot of women took a similar route.

yes you can, most of the black tie weddings Ive gone too, I would say the majority of the women (including myself)were wearing fancy short dresses , some wore long but they were the minority.

My wedding was "black tie welcome" in Manhattan and plenty of people (including my bridesmaids) wore short dresses. I almost exclusively wear short dresses, even to black tie. I would say totally fine.

As long as it's dressy (and I think the one you posted is!) I think a short dress is fine.

I wear short dresses to black tie weddings in Manhattan but I'd probably chose something a bit dressier than the dress you show above---IMO, its a bit too casual for a black tie wedding. But I do think you can do a shorter gown.

Personally, I would go long, but I'm pretty traditional like that. I'm sure that there will be others wearing shorter dresses though. I would go with something somewhat dressier than what you posted though. I would wear a dress like that to any evening wedding, regardless of dress code.

I've been to two black tie Manhattan weddings.
One I wore a gown (and I was in the minority).
The other I wore a black sequined short dress (similar to what you posted) and i was much more comfortable. Again, most of the women were in short dresses. There were some gowns but I think you're fine in either.

Definitely - I have been to several black tie weddings in manhattan and I always wear a short dress, I don't like long gowns on me.

Totally! I've been to quite a few (at really nice places, the plaza, ciprini's, waldorf, etc) in the city and honestly I'd say it's actually more common to see people in short dresses than long!
