Can someone critique my web page??
I put this together yesterday.
Can you tell me if it needs anything. If something should be taken away. If it's enough info. Colors, fonts etc
TIA!!!http://lakebonaparterental.com/default.aspx

Re: Can someone critique my web page??
My honest firsst impression is - WOW!! That is a GREAT website!
I love the pics of "nature" with the trees and the lake. It's a great way to "put you" to where the cabin is located. At first, I did not realize that the pics were gong to scroll through. Can you indicate how many pics there are? Maybe a few pics of people enjoying themselves at the house (inside and outside). I like your FAQ page. Some of the things I was going to suggest are already there. Charge MORE for a cleanup fee! If someone is not going to cleanup after themselves, charge more than that! Make it worth your while to clean up after them.
Great job - really!

Re: Can someone critique my web page??
I think I would prefer the top border picture better without the five square design. It kind of detracts from the picture.
In terms of the front page text, instead of two columns (at one point the two columns run into each other, making it slightly difficult to read), I would make one large text box with bullets. The homepage is wordy...But it looks great, the pictures are beautiful.
Maybe have an interactive calendar where users can search for weeks that are free?

We rented it for 1 week this past summer. We spent 6 weeks up there getting it rentable. It was MUCH MUCH different before we started.
As for clean up... is $125 better?? It IS 7 hours away so I dont think we will be hopping in the car to go and clean but we will have to find someone to do it for us.

Nice site. The pics are beautiful.
If you have pics of the bedrooms and bath, that might be good to include.

Thank you. I will work on that. I was worried about the home page...
I don't think the program I am using has an interactive calendar. I have to search.

Re: Can someone critique my web page??
Very nice.
I would set more space between the columns on the front page.
I would also change the font of the first line on the first page to something different that what is being used in the rest of the page. I would also make it a touch smaller.
Otherwise, very nice job.

Re: Can someone critique my web page??
I just rented a house for the weekend and spent more than that. That is a great price! When I stayed at the house for the weekend the cleaning fee was not optional. It was 100 bucks that was added. We also had to write a 300 dollars refundable check for damages. I think you should show more pics of the inside of the house...bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. You should also show some attractions or things to do up in the area...local grocery stores. The place that I stayed at had silverware, plates, cups, pots, pans cookware, etc. It may be a good idea to pick up a cheap set of these and keep them there in the kitchen. That would justify your cleaning fee as well. Not that you would have to clean them, but like you said...leave the cottage as you found it...so they could leave the dishes in the dish washer at the end of the trip.
Hope that helps!!
Your website looks awesome!!

Thanks, the place has all the kitchen stuff... should I list that?
As for the additional pictures. Derek is up there right now closing everything up for the winter and won't be back there till March so I guess I will have to wait until then to get more pics. The pics I do have have the kids in them

Re: Can someone critique my web page??
Your site is great, I can't believe you did this all so fast! I didn't see any major flaws, it's really a pretty site and it's also really easy to naviage. I only saw a few tiny things that may help a little.
One tiny thing I noticed in the FAQ section is that you mention you have to bring your own toilet paper within the section on bring your own linens. I have never rented something like this so I'm not sure if this is common or not, but someone reading through this might have missed it. Maybe re-title it to "What sort of things are not provided with the house/what items do I need to bring?" That way it's more general- plus you can consolidate it with the question below, "Do I need to bring a coffee pot or toaster?"
One other thing is that as I think another poster mentioned, I didn't realize at first that the pictures were a slide-show. Maybe center the Stop/forward/reverse buttons under or over the images so it's more clear. I love that you have a map and the current weather! I have seen on other sites people also add a Google toolbar where a user can just type their address and it'll give them directions to your place. Here is the link to Google.com for more info. http://www.google.com/apis/maps/gallery/mapsAPIProducts.html#utm_source=maps_home
Finally, one other tiny suggestion. I know there must be a way to do this but I have no idea how, you know how each page gets a title that shows up on the top of the browser- when you click on the Contact Us tab it says "Contact Us" etc. Well when you are at the home page it says Home- if you know how to change this I would suggest changing it to say "Vacation Cottage on Lake Bonaparte."
Again, those were tiny changes, in all it's a great site!

Looks great!!
I would just add more pictures of the inside. For me, the bedroom and bathrooms are more important when picking a place to stay.
