Can someone ease my mind regarding giving your child a 4th vaccine when they didnt need it?
ok I just looked at my daughters vaccine record need a copy for daycare, tues DH took her for vaccines and I see the moron nurse crossed out the last date of when she received the hep b shot and administered a 4th dose putting tues date.
I am furious right now b/c I know for a fact she got it last visit, I took her and I am anal I write down what she gets as well. mind you Im finding this out now, we call the emerg number the nurse at lij said we have to wait till the morning and call the office. I am not going to be able to sleep. I dont know if her getting a 4th dose of the hep b is dangerous she is only 10 months. I am soooooo ****** I want to smash something. anyone have any feedback? thanks.

Re: Can someone ease my mind regarding giving your child a 4th vaccine when they didnt need it?
This is straight from the CDC dosage chart...
1. Hepatitis B vaccine (HepB). (Minimum age: birth) At birth: • Administer monovalent HepB to all newborns before hospital discharge. • If mother is hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive, administer HepB and 0.5 mL of hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG) within 12 hours of birth. • If mother’s HBsAg status is unknown, administer HepB within 12 hours of birth. Determine mother’s HBsAg status as soon as possible and, if HBsAg-positive, administer HBIG (no later than age 1 week). After the birth dose: • The HepB series should be completed with either monovalent HepB or a combination vaccine containing HepB. The second dose should be administered at age 1 or 2 months. The final dose should be administered no earlier than age 24 weeks. • Infants born to HBsAg-positive mothers should be tested for HBsAg and antibody to HBsAg (anti-HBs) after completion of at least 3 doses of the HepB series, at age 9 through 18 months (generally at the next well-child visit).
4-month dose: • Administration of 4 doses of HepB to infants is permissible when combination vaccines containing HepB are administered after the birth dose.

Re: Can someone ease my mind regarding giving your child a 4th vaccine when they didnt need it?
I can't remember if it was hep B or hiB but one of them had a shortage until recently and they stopped at 3 saying the 4th was not necessary but in the past it was given. Just can't remember.
But....I can tell you that the reason we left my old pediatrician was because the attempted to give him a hep B shot he already had. We went back and forth until they checked the computer (verses the file) and confirmed I was in fact charged when I said I was. A little shaken I looked it up and from what I understood (and later confirmed with my new ped) was that it would not be harmful..unnecessary but unharmful as far as they were aware.

I think you only HAVE to have 3 doses...
Like the 1st dose @ birth is optional...???
DS only has 3...but I know many kids who have had 4

yep saw this one too, she didnt get anyother shot but the tb, no combos, I am so ****** b/c her last visit was a vaccine visit only not a well visit and she got everything but the dtap this vis t it was suppose to be the dtap and the tb but dummies gave her another hep b and the tb her last dose was in may. I cannot wait till 7am I am going to blast them, I remember her telling me that was her last shot too back in may. they know how nuts I am with the shots. my DH feels terrible, I told him its not your fault. I am just worried she got something more than needed ya know? especially with all these scares and parents who are convinced vaccines changed their children. its just so scary. thank you so much for putting me at ease though

Re: Can someone ease my mind regarding giving your child a 4th vaccine when they didnt need it?
Well I do know that I have read when a child comes in with no record, they suggest giving the vaccines they may have ALREADY had. SUch as a child who comes from another country, adoption, orphanage, etc.
So knowing that makes me think your DC will definitely be ok. It just would not DO anything since it wasn't needed, vs harm the child. But I am not 100% sure, just sharing what I believe I have read.
Have you talked to the ped's office? can you call an emergency #? I would for sure. I am sorry you are dealing with this. I would be livid too.

Re: Can someone ease my mind regarding giving your child a 4th vaccine when they didnt need it?
I just went today for my DS 6 month well visit. He just got his 4th dose today. I have been going to the Ped since he has been born, and got the first shot at the office and not the hospital. I'm pretty sure it has been a combination shot all 4 times. Which I read is why they give a 4th dose instead of 3. If I would of gotten it done in the hospital, he probably would of only gotten three I guess, but I'm not sure.

I know my son's dr doesn't count the one given at the hospital at birth. Maybe your dr does the same. I think he will have 4 as well.
