We have the Thule Ridgeline bike rack. It attaches to the hitch on our trucks and it holds 4 bikes.
It was a little pricey but we've had it for about 10 years now and it works as well as it did when we first bought it.
I highly recommend it.

My sister got a really nice one that she uses on her hatchback off of freecycle..

I'm a big fan of http://www.thulegroup.com/en/ I have a few of their items. They have an app that helps you pick the "ideal" carrier for your vehicle, and what you want to do with it, how you want to mount it (hitch, trunk, roof), and how many bikes.
