Can the outside of your house be painted in winter?
We got quotes on siding the house - a little above what we expected. We also had another realtor come in to give us her quote on what we can get for the house should we sell. She gave us the same number (range) the first realty did and also suggested not sinking $$ into completely residing the house since it is immaculate inside and it's not that necessary.
So, we're looking into having the shingles replaced (the ones that had to be removed to move windows) and having the house painted to give it a fresh facelift.
But can this be done in January/February?? If so, can you recommend someone for this type of job??
TIA

Re: Can the outside of your house be painted in winter?
I just had some interior painting done and I also wanted our front door painted. When I asked all the potential painters, they all told me they couldn't paint something that was outside due to the cold temperature.
I assume it would be the same for your house. Something about the paint not adhering well. I don't know how true that is, but more than one painter said it about my front door.

You can paint in the cold, but not this cold.... there are additives you can put in the paint to make it work in the colder temps.

HD doesn't even sell outside deck paint at this time of year - we wanted to give our deck a sprucing up. So I would think it would be hard for shingles as well.

Re: Can the outside of your house be painted in winter?
House painting costs way more than you might imagine. I believe to paint the entire outside of your home by a professional can run anywhere b/w $5000-$7000. I would say it's better to invest that in siding that will last the new owner a long time...
ETA - And no, you cannot paint in certain temps (high or low).

Sherwin-William's FAQ
Q: I have heard that painting outside in the fall and spring is not a good idea because of the dampness in the air. I plan on using latex paint. How late or early in the season can I paint and still have long-lasting results? I live in the Midwest.
A:If you need to paint outside with latex paint when temperatures are moving up and down like a yo-yo, I suggest you use one of the newer latex products that can be applied and will cure at lower temperatures, some as low as 35° F. Traditional latex-based paints need temperatures above 60° F to cure properly.

Don't forget you can paint in 34°F Weather with Graham's Elite and Aqua Borne Ceramic™ Exterior products (If you really want to!)
Benjamin Moore's cold temp paint
Product Description A 100% acrylic exterior latex house paint with a low lustre finish. Moorcraft Super Spec 100% Acrylic Latex Low Lustre House Paint (N185) is suitable for use on a wide variety of exterior surfaces and for application at temperatures as low as 40° F. Can be used with Moorcraft Super Spec Latex Exterior Primer (169) as part of a low temperature Primer-Topcoat system.

One of the realtors lives around the corner from me and said she just had her large colonial done for $2K (plus cost of paint) which is the only reason we considered it. If it were closer to your numbers, I would def not since I can do siding for $7K
