Can we talk Milk?
Joey is quickly approaching one year ( ) & I'm clueless on how to transition to milk. I know I'll ask his ped. . .but how did everyone else do it?
Cold Turkey? Mixing it with formula? In a bottle? In a sippy?
talk to me
(p.s. I would prefer no more bottles!!!!!!!!)

Loey doesn't take bottles anymore...
His ped said we could try giving him tastes of milk in the sippy and see how he does

For selfish reasons, *I'm* done with bottles I just don't know if he is. Afternoon bottle, I'll have no problem turning into sippy, he barely drinks it now anyway. It's morning and night I'm concerned about.

Re: Can we talk Milk?
I was just at my doc last night for the one year appointment. I waited because DS has a milk allergy (or so we think), but I'm going to try regular milk before going to soy.
He said to put like 2 oz in a 8 oz bottle for 3-4 days, then put 4 oz in an 8oz bottle, then 6, then a full bottle. Just to make sure the transition is easy. He also recommended that I use a sippy cup rather than a bottle, because they'll naturally drink less out of a sippy cup and he wants him on more food, so no more than 16 - 18 oz of milk each day. Yeah, that should be easy

Re: Can we talk Milk?
At 10 months I started adding 1oz of milk to his formula. Every week I upped the milk by 1oz. I stopped adding formula when it was up to 6oz milk and 2oz formula

Re: Can we talk Milk?
We pretty much went cold turkey. I did half and half for 2 bottles then tried full and he did great. We were bottle free by the end of the weekend . But I think it was so easy for DS because he really wasn't attached to his bottle.

Re: Can we talk Milk?
DD still gets bottles so I can't help with that but we mixed the milk with formula at first. I called the ped since our 1 yr apptmt wasn't til 2 weeks after her bday and the nurse said to do cold turkey but I just didn't want to. We did 50/50 then 75/25 and after 3 days or so she was on straight milk and loving it.

Re: Can we talk Milk?
We tried with just 2 oz of whole milk just to see if he liked it. He did. I was going to mix, but he transitioned fine to whole milk.
We warm up his milk bottles just to take the chill out of them. His formula was always room temperature, and that was what he was used to. Plus, ice cold milk made the bottles wet (condensation).
As for no more bottles, I can't help.
I tried this morning giving him milk in a sippy. He rolled over and crawled away from me.
When I came back with a bottle, his eyes lit up, he clapped his hand and cheered a little. I think it will be a while before he gives up his bottles!

Re: Can we talk Milk?
we started transitioning at 10.5 months. we started with one oz of whole milk for one week, then two ounces for a week, then 3 ounces and so on. I tried giving DS a sippy with milk for his afternoon bottle and he wanted no part of it. He took a few sips and then threw it. I asked the ped about it at his one year check up on Monday and she said he's still a baby, don't worry about taking away the bottles yet. I'm going to continue to try the sippy once in awhile though. I think I'm going to try the morning one next time. I feel like he's more interested in that one.

so do people suggest starting mik in a sippy and NOT starting in a bottle?
I tried it first on the weekend in a sippy by itself with breakfast. She thought it was funny and drank it.
From there quickly went from 1/2 milk in bottle to all milk.
Milk tastes better than formula so she had NO problem switching.
I dropped all bottles except the nighttime one. Haven't dropped that one yet.
My Ped suggested alternating sippee and bottle for milk because if they get used to their milk coming in the bottle they wont accept it in a sippee. I didnt have that issue, but just an FYI

Re: Can we talk Milk?
I mixed with formula in the bottle around 11 months. She was taking six four ounce bottles at the time so I started with 1 oz milk/3oz formula and honestly changed the mix based on how much formula I had left!

Re: Can we talk Milk?
my dr. said whole milk and I can do it cold turkey. However, Im not doing cold turkey..Im adding 2oz of whole milk into his bottles now (8oz bottle) and will gradually add more. Since DS was so sensitive in the beginning and we were on alimentum, I didnt want to transition him cold turkey.
Im also trying to wean off bottles to sippy cups so it will be formula/milk in sippy cups soon b/c by our 15mo visit in January he needs to be off bottles.
maybe give only the morning and evening feeding in a bottle and during the day in sippy cups to transition?

Re: Can we talk Milk?
At 11 months old, I transitioned him in one week.
Day one: 7oz formula, 1oz whole milk Day two: 6 oz formula, 2 oz whole milk Day three: 5 oz formula, 3 oz whole milk Day four: 4 oz formula, 4 oz whole milk Day five: 3 oz fomula, 5 oz whole milk Day six: 2 oz formula, 6 oz whole milk Day seven: 1 oz formula, 7 oz whole milk Day eight: all milk
eta: Did this in a bottle. After he got the milk thing down, THEN I started giving it in a sippy.
Also, make sure you heat it up a bit to take the chill off.

Re: Can we talk Milk?
I transitioned DS to whole milk at 10 months. I went cold turkey and he LOVES it! I BF, so thought he would have a hard time transitioning from warm BM to cold milk in a sippy, but it was easy and he drank it down! I started with an ounce or two in the beginning and worked up to a whole sippy cup. He drinks it with meals. I never really gave him bottles, so a sippy with a straw is how I always gave him water/milk/BM after 7/8 months old.

Re: Can we talk Milk?
i followed my peds recommendation to go cold turkey and ds had a hard time - he kept spitting up really smelly puke burps (tmi) so we went back to half and half for 2 days and them 4oz milk and 3 oz formula for 3 days and then 5oz milk and 2 oz formula for 2 days then a full bottle of milk after a week.. had no issues with it then

Re: Can we talk Milk?
We have been transitioning Travis over to milk for the last few weeks. I was afraid to do cold turkey, bc my niece had the runs for a few days until her body got adjusted. So I wanted to avoid that if at all possible. So we did 2oz milk 4oz formula for a few days, then we did 30z and 30z, then 4oz and 2oz, then yesterday we switched him to all milk. So far (crossing my fingers) he seems ok. Travis was still taking 4 bottles a day; he never dropped to 3 like some babies. However we have him right now on 3 bottles and 1 cuppy. We are hoping by next week that the bottle will be completely gone. We also warm the milk up a bit, like room temp. Travis isn’t a fan of cold milk.
