Can we talk sporadic runny noses? Allergy vs cold?
DD#1 has a drippy nose on and off (runs 5 mins one day, 10 mins another) - never for several days in a row. For example it might run while at the playground for 5 mins on Monday - but not at all tues or wed - but will run for 10 mins Thursday afternoon, and then 5 mins on Friday morning, then not again until Monday, etc. If we stay home and do not go out at all it usually doesn't run unless she cries. She never has a fever or a cough and is not irritable at all - and this will go on for weeks or months.
How do you know when it is a cold or allergies? What do you do about preschool?

See my ped says allergies or what he calls toddler nose - non specific runny nose (not viral related). The issue is that preschool says it is a cold - and anytime it runs she should stay home. The ped suggested a while back some claritin or benadryl but I don't want to constantly drug her up - but I DO want to make sure she doesn't have a cold b.c I would hate to send her and have her get anyone sick I would feel awful. But at the same time if it is allergies I hate to keep her away from everything and everyone kwim?
