Can we talk staircase gates... those with banisters?
What kind of gates did you get? My staircase has banisters on the bottom and top. So there is no wall to hook anything against.
What kind of gate did you girls get that you'd recommend? Or did you just get one and put a whole in your banister?

At the top of the stairs, I got a really long gate to go from wall to wall-it blocks off DD's access to the stairs from her room.
We never did find a solution to the bottom of the stairs so we run after her. We might get one of those velcro fabric gates just to block it off.

I'm not sure what its called, but BRU sells this attachment that gets attached to the gate and goes around the banister so you dont have to make holes in the banister.
heres the link

We have something very similar on our banister at the top of the stairs. We don't have a gate at the bottom - we run after her.

Yeah see that doesn't work for us because we have the wrap around staircase at the top.
ETA: this is a pic of the top of our stairs

In your case, I think screwing right into the banister will be your best option. When you eventually move or take off the gate, filling the holes will be very easy since it is already white (you don't have to worry about matching the wood!)

I have wrought iron bannisters on both sides and at the top and bottom of the stairs.
We got this gate by Kidco and had to buy additional attachments (one set for each side) to install the gate:

Re: Can we talk staircase gates... those with banisters?
My husband built a custom thingy for our gate so we wouldn't need to put holes in the banister. It is hard to explain. I will take a pic tonight
