Can/will a OBGYN prescribe Xanyx??

I'm going today and just wondering if I ask if he will prescribe me Xanyx -- or do you have to go to your PCP??

It depends on how liberal or conservative your doctor is with meds. It is some people's opinion that no doctor who doesn't specialize in mental health should prescribe xanax. While other doctors will.

Bottom line is that xanax is an addictive, yet highly effective, medication for anxiety. Too many people become addicted to it and have trouble coping with life without it. And getting a doctor to write a never ending refill of the stuff should be difficult.

All that being said, I'm NOT saying at all that you are going to abuse it. I'm just saying that doctors need to be careful when prescribing it.

my gyn gave it to me and i didn't even ask her for it. this was a few years ago when my DH had cancer and she was concerned cuz i was not sleeping.

i guess if you have a specific reason to take it and they agree then they probably would. it doesn't matter what specialty they are in, any doc can prescribe it if need be. i would not suggest you call up to get it, you would probably need an appointment

It depends on the practitioner and for what reason. If you are taking it for something short term, like to calm you for a flight then they might give it. If you are taking it for anxiety and have never had it before, then they may not. If they prescribe you that med this means that they are also responsible for treating the reason why you are receiving that medication and conditions such as anxiety should not be treated by a OBGYN. You may have better luck with getting it from a Primary care physician.
