Can you believe this? Price for Lowe's to take carpet away..
So Dh and I went to Lowes to price carpet last night. We need 3 rooms, 2 hallways and stairs done. The price was about 2200. Not bad.
They do that $199 special that includes ripping up your old carpet, moving furniture and installation. It also includes "haul-away" which we assumed meant they took the old carpet with them. That is NOT what it means.
It means they roll the carpet up and tie it up and put it out on your curb. We cannot do that in our neighborhood because we have private garbage pickup which we pay for each month. They charge alot to pick up bulk items like carpeting. Its easier, and alot cheaper for us to take everything to the dump
So we asked how much they charge to take the carpet away - it was 95 cents a square foot - which comes out to $1000 dollars!! That is right they wanted to charge is half of what we were already spending just to take the carpet away!! Dh was so disgusted he walked away! I couldnt believe it!!

WOW! We are doing carpeting in a few months, and that $199 deal looked pretty good.... guess I'll have to re-evaluate it now....

For $199 you could just get a dumpster delivered to your driveway, load the carpet in, and the company will come back for the dumpster!

You could always rent one of those pick up trucks at Home Depot (does Lowes's have them?) and drive them there.

We used Home Depot and they had a similar deal - it wasnt until they were done installing the carpet and our old carpet was all rolled up that the guy said "so do you want the old carpet in your garage or out on the curb?"
We would have had to pay an additional $250 or so for them to take the carpet with them. We just put it in the garage and threw a little out at a time.

Thank god for Oyster bay trash pickup. I tore all of the carpet out of my house and put it to the curb, no bubbles no troubles.........

we had 2 rooms of carpet pulled up and installed. It cost us $40 extra to have the old carpets ripped up, and bundled up so we could put it at the curb.
If you didnt order the carpet yet, I would check a locla carpet store. I bet they can dobetter.

I wonder how much it would cost if you took it to the dump yourself?
To take it to the dump would be 10 bucks or less. We have taken tons of stuff there before and only paid 5 or 6 bucks
We are going to a few local places tonight. Whoever has the best price gets our business
DH said he will just have whoever takes the carpet out roll it up adn leave it in our garage. He will then take it to the dump

I would have laugh at their face and move on.
I would understand $200 but not $1000.

Okay have them install the carpet then call a hauler to come and haul away your old carpet for $199
