Can you change your cabinets after granite is installed?
Can you change your cabinets after your granite is installed? I know that sounds like a crazy idea but here is our problem.
We just moved into our new condo. We closed a month ago and did renovations to our kitchen. So this weekend was the first time we actually were living in our kitchen to really see how things work. Well, what do you know...BIG problem. We have a galley kitchen with a a radiator straight ahead (when you look into the kitchen) that sticks out 2 inches or so. On the right side of the kitchen, we have 4 drawers and on the left we have a base cabinet with the pull out drawers. So, I go to open them and realize, they can't open because of the radiator . Now, home depot did the measuring and the design (we had the installed by someone else) so we plan on going back to them and causing a big stink and demand that they fix them at the minimum.
Now, here is where my question comes from. We are supposed to have the granite installed on Tuesday. If home depot says they will fix them, do we have to put a hold on the granite (and live without a sink for 3-4 weeks) or can they install the granite and then change the cabinet when they come in. I'll call the granite company in the morning but I am too anxious so i figured I would check with you ladies (and gents). Please help!!! Sorry so LONG

Definitly put the granite on hold. I work for a granite co. your countertops need to be installed and leveled befor granite it installed. if you remove the granite later there is potential for it to break. if i were you I would put the job on hold. Did u get the granite through Home Depot?

No, we didn't get it through home depot. This is seriously going to screw us. we moved in a month later than closing so we didn't have to worry about living without a kitchen but by the time we fight with home depot and then reorder the cabinets and get them reinstalled it will be way over a month from now. ARGGHHH!

Your granite is measured to fit the cabinets. If the cabinet structure changes, the granite would need to re-measured to fit. If they can fix the problem without changing the structure of the cabinet then you'll be ok.
I'd have them look at it first so they understand what needs to be done before putting the granite on hold.

I would put the granite on hold also but I will warn you that Home Depot stinks when it comes to their cabinets. My mothers friends ordered her cabinets through them and they measured them in June of 2005 and they kept screwing up with the cabinets or they were damaged and they didnt get it correct until Nov. of 2005. She said they came out beautiful but not worth all the aggrivation. So be prepared to fight.
