Can you collect unemployment if you've been fired from a job for tardiness?
I have a friend and her fiance was terminated today for tardiness, and I'm wondering if he will be able to collect? She is so worried. I feel so bad for her...

I thought you can get unemployment no matter what reason .. just depends on how long you were employed for... Do they even ask why you got fired?

was he late a lot? did they build a case against him or give him warnings?
if they built a case against him and can show proof that he was warned, he may not qualify

I thought you can get unemployment no matter what reason .. just depends on how long you were employed for... Do they even ask why you got fired?
you can't get it unless you lost your job through no fault of your own. your previous employer has to pay for the unemployment benefits and can contest it.

Well..I asked her and apparently he was warned and given a final warning. It would really be a shame if he can't collect. He was there for 3 years.

Well..I asked her and apparently he was warned and given a final warning. It would really be a shame if he can't collect. He was there for 3 years.
I don't mean to sound heartless, but if he was on final warning, why would he ever risk being late again?

ok. I knew you couldnt get if you left on your own, just didnt know their were rules about how you got fired. I guess they have to otherwise people will try and get fired to get it. makes sense.

as a supervisor I agree with this, why would it be a shame, it sounds like he made his bed, now he needs to lay in it.

I asked myself the same thing honestly. I really believe he took for granted that his fiance has been there for 20 years, and that he was so friendly with everyone, he probably thought it would never happen. It's a shame..especially with the way things are now.

my DH had a small business with a few employees. One guy worked for us for a few months & then suddenly STOPPED coming to work. A few days later his Dad called us to say the guy was in Jail. I mailed his last paycheck to his Dad & recorded what happened in his file.
A few months later I get a questionarre from NYUE asking a bunch of questions about why he was terimated. I filled it out & wrote a lengthy letter explaining that he terminated himself & included my notes from his file with dates & details.
We were later notified that he qualified from UE 
I'm pretty sure you can get it unless you kill someone.
