Can you give me some tips about buying privately?
There is a friend of the family that knows someone who is selling their mothers home b/c she passed away. They are selling it privately. Can you give me some pointers of how to make this not such a frustrating process? We have not been told what the actual price is.. just a ball park figure right now.

Re: Can you give me some tips about buying privately?
We bought privately. It was frustrating at times but, I think that is just the territory with buying a house.
We contacted friends and found a lawyer and an inspector to use. The process is a lot slower because there isn't a realtor helping to push it along.
We made an offer and it was rejected. They countered and we met their counter offer (it was only $10k more and the house was still a good deal).
Do some research to see what comparible homes in the area are listing for. We got some information from a realtor friend about what homes were selling for as well.
Good luck!

We brought our house privately - it was really easy and quick.
We agreed on a price - our lawyers got in contact with each other - we signed a contract and a few weeks later we went to closing. (in those few weeks the title search happened and the mortgage stuff was taken care of)
