Because both Nassau and Suffolk have a great number of good schools. I think a better question would be to ask which school districts should one avoid.

that question on a public board is always a trainwreck.
Best to give more specifics on commutes or other things & ask for positive comments rather than negative. JMO

Yeah. I'm just looking for the good ones. I found a really nice house I liked but when I told my friend about the school district she said it wasn't good. I'm a first time home buyer so I'm pretty clueless.

Thank you for your replies.

This is the #1 topic on here and you will always get opinions which is granted. A school district really depends on what you want to get out of that school and not "Just because I heard it was good".

Not sure where you are looking, but maybe give an idea and then you will get a better response.

There are so many great public schools on LI and that is why taxes are so high, etc.. yes some are better then others when it comes to test scores, but in the end you really have to look at your situation.

Re: Can you please recommend good school districts...

Good is a relative term. I think most school districts on LI are good. But what are you looking for in a town/district? Small or large SD? Solid athletics program? Do you need extensive SpEd services or gifted programs? Full day kindergarten? Is diversity important?

A lot goes into evaluating a district.... good luck!

Re: Can you please recommend good school districts...

What is good to one can be awful for another. I know for myself, a good district is one that provides excellent services for children with special needs. Some of the best districts for typically developing children are the worst for children with special needs. It's all about what you are looking for.

100% true. Its tricky for young couples without kids yet or with babies to really predict what their children will benefit most from. As the mother of a 21 year old that is learning disabled & a 15 year that is gifted I can tell you the reputation of a school district & the scores they publicize play a very small part in the overall success of a child's education.

The advice I always give is to try to determine what you think will be important to your family-such as sports, art, smalll district vs large, before & after care, diveristy and things like that.
Then go to the distict offices in the areas you are looking, ask to see their budget report, see if the services match your desires.
Ask for a guided tour of the school your kids would be attending, ask about services. Then check out the bus stops in the potential neighborhood, do you like what you see? Can you imagine your kids playing with those kids? Drive around the neighborhood late on Saturday night, Are there teens hanging out all over? Shady characters walking the street? go to the closest food store, eat in a local place, do you feel comfortable with the other people in those places & the service they provide? They will be your neighbors. Drive around again on a warm Sunday afternoon, are people outside caring for their homes? Playing with their kids?
The essence of your community is more signifigant than 'opinions' of people that have never lived, worked or spent any signifigant time in a town or district.
Well parented children can thrive in almost any district on LI.
