Can you recommend a decent cheap toddler car seat?
I just learned that the airline charges you $100 for the third checked in bag. 
DH is going to just buy a car seat before picking us up at the airport.
Can you recommend a cheap toddler car seat?
I'd rather spend the same $100 to buy a car seat vs spend $100 to potentially damage our Orbit car seat.

We have an alpha omega, convertible car seat. It as $99 on sale at BBB when we got it!
My co worker recommended it, her son was in a car accident in that seat and was fine....it was an extra for grandpas car!
ETA: do they charge you if you check it at the gate?
Also are you renting a car? When we did disney with DS, we just got the car seat from the rental company!

Are you paying for a seat? If so you can bring it right on the plane. We ust got back from FL and we gate checked 2 strollers and DS's carseat with no charge.

When I flew last month, I gate checked one of my Britax Boulevards and it came back totally unharmed. We just put one of those bags on wheels over it from BBB. It didn't cost us anything extra since we gate checked it as a baby item.

Check with your airlines. Many airlines don't count the car seat in your baggage allowance when traveling with children. We also had a bag for our car seat when we have flown and the seat was fine.

You DO NOT have to pay to check a car seat or a stroller whether you check it at the gate, or in front when you check your luggage  We just got back from Florida a few weeks ago and checked ds's seat with our luggage and left dd's seat and stroller to be gate checked...we did pay to check 2 suitcases...

I called the airline and it seemed like I could take EITHER the car seat OR the stroller.
The problem is that I am flying solo to meet DH.
I think I will just try to check in the car seat and see what happens. I know I can gate check the stroller for free. I'm going to try to pack super light and drop a bag. I'd rather buy extra stuff we need once we get up to Maine vs pay the airline $$$.
I am not liking these extra baggage fees!

I hope I misunderstood the guy I spoke to and that the car seat does not count towards my baggage allowance. I plan to check in the car seat and gate check the stroller.
All of you girls seem to be saying the same thing, that the car seat doesn't count towards the baggage allowance.

To answer your original ?- I just ordered the Graco Myride65 at Walmart.com for $115. I also saw the Envenflo Triumph on Walmart.com for $105.

I like the Graco Comfortsport. The guy who installs my car seats recommended it to us as a good convertible as a second seat. We have flown twice with it now. The lower models are about $99.
Etd to add- who are you flying - check their website - usually you can bring ONE car seat and ONE stroller per passenger. Especially if you gate check them. They are free. Not sure if you check them with the bags - some might charge - but they don't if you gate them them - they get thrown around less if you gate check them anyway.

I'm flying US Airways.
The baggage policy states that the first bag is $25, second bag is $35 and the third bag is $100.
It also says, "You're also allowed Infant assistive device (stroller or car seat)."
When I called, the guy made it seem like I could take a stroller or car seat for free. I'm hoping he meant checked luggage.
I'm pretty certain I can gate check the stroller for free although the website and guy I spoke to wasn't so clear on that.
