Can you recommend bottles with sturdy nipples?
Let me preface this by saying that my DS was in the NICU for 6 weeks and has been home for 2 weeks. For the past 8 weeks all he has known was hospital nipples. Since he is starting to eat more I decided to switch over to new bottles - Playtex drop ins. We started last night with the Slow flowing silicone nipples - DH found them very soft and difficult to get into DS's mouth (he still has trouble opening and keeping his tongue down for the bottle) when he finally got it in it seemed like DS wasn't getting any formula. So I switched to the slow latex nipple - a little sturdier but still so hard to get into his mouth - I seriously have tried 4 times since last night and can't get it in. Today I tried the ventaire Stage 1 silicone nipple and he seemed to DETEST it. OK, so I move on to Avent Stage 1 silicone nipples and he left an ounce in the bottle and it seemed like he kept pushing the nipple out of his mouth.
Any advice on what I should do/try? TIA

The NICU gave us some of the bottles that they use. I believe you can also get them through Similac's website. For nipples, we found that Gerber had some that were very similar to the ones from NICU and those fit on some bottles that we had and of course Gerber bottles would fit them. Now my baby uses Dr. Brown's bottles but I know what you mean about the silicone. The Born Free Bottles are not working for us because they have a weird silicone cushion on top of the nipple. Congrats on your baby "graduating" from NICU!!!!

I use the Soothie bottle and the nipple is pretty sturdy (it's just like the pacifier).

I recommend these too. My DS was in the Nicu for 9 weeks, so I can relate. His first night home he wouldn't stop crying because he was hungry, but wouldn't eat from any of the ones I already had. I had to run out and buy like 3 or 4 different bottles for him to try. The Soothie ones worked for us until he got older, then we switched to Dr Browns. Good Luck!

DS#2 was in NICU also for 3 weeks and we took a bunch of nipples from the hospital. I just sterilized them 2 or 3 times and then tossed them. We later switched to the Advent naturally nipples.
